|
|
My cousin Richard from St. John is moving to Korea in August to take up a job at a kindergarten. He is moving to Guri city and wants to know what subway stations are in the area.
Any and all info would be greatly appreciated...
Cheers in advance |

I live the next town over and bus it into Guri (which is just east of Seoul) to catch the subway into Seoul. The subway-line that services Guri is the KORAIL line (which goes all the way to Seoul Station). When I catch the subway in Guri (at Guri Station), it takes like 10-15 minutes to get to Oksu Station, where I transfer to the orange line if, say, I'm heading to Itaewon.
Guri has a few subway stations on the KORAIL line, not sure how many, but it's a snap to get into Seoul. Hope this helps! |

On most lines, you can usually estimate 2 minutes per stop, which would equal 16 minutes given the 8 stops from Guri to Oksu. But actually the old Jungang line slows the trip down to about 3 minutes to each stop in some cases, so it actually tends to take about 25 minutes to Oksu, once you get off the train. But 10 minutes from Guri would be 4 stops to Hoegi, the first transfer station, where you can transfer to Line 1 and be in Dongdaemun and Jongno, 6 stops later. City Hall Stn is 9 stops away from Hoegi on that line, where you can transfer to line 2 and be in Sinchon and Hongdae within 3-4 stops.
So all told, about 50 minutes and 2 transfers from Guri to Hongdae. About 40 minutes and 2 transfers from Guri to Itaewon. However, if you want to get to the Gangnam area, I'd suggest avoiding the subway and instead take a 20 minute bus to Gangbyeon Station, which is on line 2 and is only 5 stops from COEX and 7 from Gangnam Stn. It'll save you about 20 minutes and 2 transfers at subway stations. Buses that have routes to Gangbyeon can be seen everywhere around Guri. |

I believe the line running thru guri is the jungang commuter line, and actually ends at yongsan station. they've continued to expand further into gyunggi-do, so not sure of the other side. |

So far, so good...
Thanx
Just found a VERY detailed up-to-date map of the Seoul subway system....
on an off note: it is completely uncanny how the subway has expanded in the last several years.
When I was there the first time (96-97), there were no Itaewon subway stop and to go into Itaewon from Seoul Station, you had to go all the way toward Yongsan station and make a U-turn at the Samkakchi IC to get into Itaewon. The Itaewon subway stop was just added in 2001. |
