Kids Think Churchill Was First On Moon

Mar 20 2008 By David Willets

ONE in three UK children think Winston Churchill was the first man on the moon, says a survey.

And 72 per cent failed to pick out the Moon in a series of pictures.

The research indicated that children know more about celebrity stars than those in the cosmos.

The online survey of 1400 children was for TV channel, Jetix who screen the Power Rangers show.

The Power Rangers brand has teamed up with the British Astronomical Society to create a guide to the stars using the TV characters to help teach kids more about the night sky.

One-third of the children quizzed thought Earth was not an official planet.

Nearly three-quarters of them wanted to learn more about astronomy, although only 15 per cent believed their parents would be able to help them learn about the night sky.

And a whopping 87% of children also believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, AND the Easter Bunny.

I think that's a bit different than not being able to identify a picture of the moon.

Aha, that's Scotland. Completely different from England. Wales, Scotland and Ireland always do a lot worse in these areas. Most Scottish kids have become fairly philosophical about life after watching most of their brothers and sisters die in unrelated chip pan fires.

In England we're all pipping, fox hunting geniuses. Now where was my horse......

Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder has admitted not knowing people speak English in London.

The NFL player might want to check a map before he gets on board a plane for Sunday's prestige game against the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium.

Crowder, who comes from Atlanta in Georgia, may be praised on the field, but confessed geography was not his strong point.

He admitted he did not know until now where London was - or that Londoners spoke English.

"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries," he said.

"I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that."

Crowder added: "I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him.

"That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name."

The Miami Dolphins are play the New York Giants at Wembley this Sunday in the first NFL regular-season game to be played outside the United States.

Lol, finding a retarded remark from someone in the NFL is about as difficult as finding your pants when you're wearing them.

Didn't know that the kids were Scotts, the article only said one in three UK children. I'm sure all Brits are much smarter than NFLers, and maybe even some boxers.

4-8 year olds with a sense of humor. I reckon the survey was a pop-up like the ones you have to fill in before you download software. Clicking random answers is the smart thing to do.

Is that the best rebuttal you've got?

You're right though. When you're doing a survey if you're asked which picture is the moon, the smart thing to do is to click on the picture of a paper cup.

Of course, with that kind of irreverent humor at 8 years old, they must all be geniuses.

I think this'll tell you all you need to know. Jetix is a Disney channel. The watchers of which are probably kids who are watching it as soon as they get home from school 3:30ish till they go to bed. Either that or they were all smoking delicious crackpipes.

Touche!

My point is that online surveys aren't very reliable. Often the person doesn't want to fill out the survey. Sometimes there are usability issues.

I don't think that a survey of 4-8 year olds is indicative of British intelligence as a whole.

Yeah I know. I just thought it was kind of silly, and there is a lot of Euro hate and slander of American intelligence on here, and in Korea in general. People who think Jay Leno's man on the street bit is a real representation of Americans.

What are those things in your avatar?

Edit: considering the title of this thread I'll clarify: they look like arrows but they're buried deep into the ground.

Lawn darts. The cause of many maimed little yank porkers.

Lots and lots of crap pisses me off, but by golly nothing pisses me off more than infighting between Brits and Americans. It's like a child hating a parent, or vice versa. All involved will receive a visit from Satan at midnight tonight, because frankly you sully the majesty of Mother Nature's manifold works via your poisonous, scabrous and verminous existence.

Lawn Darts

Popular children's toy from the 70's and 80's.

They finally realized that after throwing them up, they eventually come down...sometimes landing on the 12 year old who threw it straight up just to see how far it would go.

I'm pretty sure they're illegal now.

To a Brit as you well know JH, it's banter on our part....and not to be taken any other way.
