That's the same reaction I had. Koreans are quite critical of their own country in certain situations. They are NOT critical when a foreigner starts off criticizing Korea. Once upon a time a guy I knew slightly invited himself to sit down at a table with my Korean friend and me and started his conversation by saying he wanted to speak to a Korean who spoke good English because he wanted to talk about Korean problems. My friend was not amused. Neither was I.

When I got here, I thought it would be effective(I was wrong!) to make Koreans talk by being as controversial as possible. After all, it worked in Russia. Big mistake. Russians like to argue. Koreans like to look pained and silent. Anyhow, after taking out two teachers, I hit on the advantages of Japanese culture, the dokdo issue, why English is international and not korean, the american victory in the Korean War, and the fact North Korea is supported by the evil Uri Party and the stupid sunshine policy.

Someone, above, asked about "cultural imperialism." Read this example. It pervades cultural imperialism at the individual level -- right down to the inability and unwillingness if not casual disregard to at least speak with (and not to!) Koreans in their own language.

i don't see anything wrong with foreigners trying to bring some changes to korea.

the thing is that if someone is looking to unite foreigners, they have to think about ALL foreigners, not just white guy english teacher joe from random western country.

if a person is not going to be living long-term in korea, what incentive do koreans have to take them seriously?

The moderators have a job to do. This topic should be locked since truthfulchat was banned. Now I already reported two of the moderators and also copied some of their inappropriate language, so I am urging the moderators to do what is required. It is his topic, he has asked for it to be locked so no more posts will be made.

Are you saying that, since truthfulchat was banned, that we shouldn't stand up for causes in Korea? Of course not, so the thread should stay open.

Gee, Frederick, you are a really good friend of Franklin. You have joined Dave's right after your friend was banned, and only because he was banned, and you only comment on his topics! I sure wish I had a friend as faithful as you!
