Nothing. We'd all be dead from fan death, or something. |

It sure must cost a lot to heat these schools in the winter with all the windows open, especially with the rising cost of fuel.
I have tried telling the students to keep the windows closed, but the moment I'm not looking, someone always opens them back up.
I can't help wondering how why they do this, not to mention how much money they are wasting.
How much do you think the school could afford to pay you if they put the savings from keeping the windows closed into your pay check? |

I always open the windows in the winter..the room gets too hot and stuffy after a while. After all, the heater is on. |

It always amuses me to read in the western press about the dire effects of livestock/factory/traffic emissions etc and how they are causing global warming.
Bollocks. Koreans cause global warming. Corridors and classrooms can be freezing, but the heaters are on full blast, directly underneath the wide-open windows. |

Do they keep the windows open in Bangkok, too? |

My co-teacher who picks me up on Tuesdays and Thursdays has his heater in his car on blast set at 35 degrees. I've now learned to get into the car wearing just a small thong with ice blocks roped around my body. If I didn't I'd fall asleep and probably catch light. |

Taxi drivers here are seriously weird in that department. Windows open fully and heating blasting. Idiots. |

They're really good about their A/C. There's not a heater to speak of in Bangkok...maybe in the north. Anyway, I was referring to what has to be one of the leading smog-producers in this hemisphere. If you want that smoking cigarettes experience without actually smoking cigarettes, go to Bangkok.

May be, by the same logic of fan death, they are afraid of dying as a result of "overheating".. |

Heater or air con... it doesn't matter to a Korean... I don't know why K-appliances have any temperature settings between 'Off' and 'Full Blast'. Idiots! |

One of my friends was told that keeping the windows open prevents pandemics. |

I used to do that back home. I did it for different reasons however. Sound travels better in the cold. I had a 1200watt Rockford Fosgate car audio system and the cold air from outside kept my amp cool. Also, with the windows down, I could set off car alarms 5 blocks away instead of 4.
So, in the freezing cold winter I'd have my windows down, heat full blast to keep my warm. Running 1200watts at 1 OHM makes the amp run hot so the cold air was great to keep it cool. |

I'm actually a bit confused. In November, when it was cold outside, my school never had the heat on and the windows were always open. I was sick constantly and miserable. Now, while it's 18 outside, the heater is on at 27 in the office. Same thing on the subways and busses. I was burning up on Saturday in Seoul, but the heaters were still at full blast.
I think my school just spends its budget on heating at the beginning of the school year and it's gone by the end. |

This is my situation too, except now the windows are also closed, it is so hot in my office I feel like I am going crazy. I rush through lunch so I can run back to the office and have window control before my co comes back. |
