It has all the potential to turn into a master-debate ...

My guess is that "Enrico Palazzo" is really a young woman (or "sensitive-type" bloke) who was turned on by Anne Hathaway's flustered debate performance scene at the start of Princess Diaries ... Razz

(Maybe they finally let "Bramble" become a mod ... Surprised )

Captain America, seemed to have a good response. Junior was being thought provoking, but we can only deal with the human factor, and humans are not completely scientific.

Rteacher, leave the guessing to professionals who can handle such things. Enrico Palazzo is a signore. Your job is not to guess badly, but to help with this thread. By the way, the above is a violation of the guidelines. Getting personal with a baseball player or umpire won't do...

Since I am just the moderator, I would suggest that Captain America and the Bobster who have taken this seriously take over in organizing how many speeches per poster in the debate (whether it's three and three, how many points each must have in each post, and when is the deadline day of the week for submitting a topic, should it be done bi-weekly etc...)

Sounds like a wonderful idea for some other type of forum. Here, the socks would probably argue in circles with themselves before logging into their mod accounts and locking the whole thing.

IDEA: Have a list of interested participants then have two of the classic Current Events forum posters DRAFT pick from the list of interested participants, thereby consisting of two teams for the debate.

Mods versus rockers? (OK, I'm pabo and/or babo ...)

How about a playoff system modeled after the NCAA basketball tournament? (and we can make bets and have office pools on the side) Cool

We could start a late "March Madness" with a "Sweet 16" (eight brackets) or (more likely) a round of eight contestants (four brackets) or (most likely) start right off with the "Final Four"...

I must at this time dispute you on the level of facts, good sir. First, I see no one here among us named Captain America, so you are confused, much as someone else was confused about the existence of your gonads and just as you were confused about the cumulative genders represented here in our little community of brigands.

Second, I've made it clear from the start that I'm really all about the beer, and now I'm being accused of seriousness? Fie on it, I say. Fie! I bite my thumb at the lot of you, and yes, in a mocking and disrespectful manner.

Happy to help however I can, but others will have to do the heavy lifting. My job throws things in my face at intermittent intervals that are often unpredictable and with short lead-times on the deadlines. Be sure to call me when the party's ready, though.

Actually, others might have similar scheduling difficulties, and it would be a shame to have my team win just because someone did a funk at a crucial moment, rather than because we rock they suck. Which we do, and they do. (Although the free beer would still be exactly as delicious, of course.)

Anyway, I was thinking maybe small 2 or 3 member teams would be cool, so there'd be someone to pick up the slack. And just like a real debate, the positions could be assigned by others, so maybe me and Nowhere Man and Big_Bird would have to argue in favor of the idea that the Iraq invasion was right and good, best thing since sliced bread, and Gopher and Justin Hale and Joo Rhipp would have to argue that Saddam was just sort of morose and misunderstood, it was all a big misunderstanding, and if everybody had just stopped picking on him ...

Oh! Oh! I just thought, you know, our teams could have, like, really cool names and stuff, like The Cripps and The Bloods, or Boshintang and Beondaeggi. I want MY team to be named The Groovyass Liberal Mofos, and of course the opposing team would have to be called The Big Fat Loser Snotheads.

Oh, and you guys stop saying I'm serious. That's Bramble's job. Everyone knows that.

[I think having teams might be difficult unless you have two of say the same threads with one against one and one against one. Suppose, you have Gopher and Joo on one team and Big Bird and On The Other Hand.
BB would debate say Gopher in one thread and On the Other Hand would debate Joo, and then you could see who combined has the most points.
Then, you have the winning team. Couldn't it get messy if you have
several people in one thread debating? How would one organize that in just one thread unless it's one on one?

And, sorry, I meant Captain Corea, not Captain America. Anyway, aren't they on the same team?Smile

By Friday, let's have at least an attempt, a practice debate with ideas coming together... If necessary, something should get started by Monday and the debate would have to end on a Thursday and the voting would happen on that day. This should be done every two weeks.

In the debate, it shouldn't be assumed the CE moderator will moderate the debate. A forum member might be idealy chosen for that with the CE moderator assisting if necessary, being a facilitator.

IF the debate needs a fact-checker, I'm game.

It would make my work a lot more rewarding and interesting if debaters would refrain from using as sources people like Bill Kristol or organizations like TownHall or FoxNews.
Why? Because they tend to lie. They tend to lie a lot. The Rev. Wright thing was one in a long line of lies.

The debate should be about the topics themselves, and not lead to whether or not the information presented is inaccurate because one debater got it from the Bush Administration.

Not a very strong case here.

a) completely irrelevant

b) utterly false

c) again irrelevant, as the level education of people who believe in evolution has absolutely nothing to do with whether it is factual.
