I got a new passport and my E-2 visa is in my old one. I still have the old one. Someone told me just to carry both with me whenever I leave the country and it should be ok, but that sounds way, way too easy for this country. I'm guessing I have to go to immigration and file for a transfer and pay a fee or something.
Does anyone have a clue on this? Anyone had to do this before? Thanks in advance.

I think you need to go to immi and pay some fees again and get some nice new stamps in your passport.
Did your passport expire and that's why you needed a new one?
Mine expired last year, so immi only issued me a visa until the expiry date mid contract. I had to bring my new passport and bring back the contract that they had already seen. I filled in a form and they gave me a new multi entry visa and updated the dates on the back of my arc card.

If you are American you need to pop into the immigration office and register the change in your passport. They will put your multi entry visa into your new passport.
If you are NOT American you need to pop into the immigration office and register the change in your passport. Your visa is used and irrelevant (your status of sojourn is on your ARC) but if you have a re-entry stamp they will transfer that to your new passport. |

Takes about 15 minutes AFTER you get to the counter. Get in before the line-up. |

Sorry ttompatz, but they don't always give American Multiple Re-entry stamps. I didn't get a new one, because I didn't have one in my old passport. It took me all of 5 minutes to do mine at Incheon Immi.

Original visas for Americans are USUALLY multi-entry. This is particularly true for visas issued IN THE USA.
EXTENSIONS of their visa are NOT multi-entry and they need to apply for a re-entry permit if their status of sojourn is changed or extended.
In either case, IF you had a multi or a re-entry permit in your old passport they will transfer it to your new one at no charge.
You are also required by law to report the change in your passport (material change in your circumstance during your period of sojourn in Korea) within 2 weeks of the issuance of said new/replacement passport.
There is NO CHARGE for updating your personal file (change of passport, change of address, etc).
