It depends on the post, but a soldier who is a band member, that is there primary MOS (however, they recently revamped the MOS classification system and based on http://www.army.com/enlist/mos.html there doesn't seem to be a band MOS anymore......it used to be the 00 series~ CentralCali, please correct me [?].....)

As for going directly into OCS, it is an option.
But you will have to speak to a recruiter AND a recruiting officer to find out how to join the officer corp.
I think active duty OCS is 14 months.
And a part of that time is spent at a basic training type of situation and I have heard it is even harder than enlisted training because more is expected of them.

I know to go to OSC from the enlisted side, you need 90 credits, pass a compresensive exam, get the recommendations of their CO, BNCDR and BDE CDR and pass a selection board where the garrison commander sometimes presided.

But sometimes it is better to get some time under your belt as an enlisted soldier. I say that because if an officer comes in with an enlisted background, the NCOs would treat them with more respect (given their experience with taking orders as well as giving them) where if an officer goes to the unit fresh from OCS, ROTC and even from the military schools, most of the time they are just left to the hands of the CDR and no one really pays attention to them and they usually don't pay attention to the soldiers (thus giving rise to the top-down command structure that generally puts stress on the soldiers and convinces many soldiers not to re-enlist)

Just curious, but why don't you join the Canadian armed forces?

Good luck. Canadian Armed forces recruiting is a pain in the ass and a joke. If you have been outside of Canada for more then two years, good luck you will be waiting 3 years to get in if your lucky. Once you get the *beep* out of that shi3t hole Canada for more then 2 years they treat you like an imigrant. Don't bother its a waste of time.

I contacted the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army and they said that they could not recruit me as a Canadian without a "Green Card."

I was contacted through e-mail and on the Army site by an online recruiter who was in their chat forum.

They both also told me that the do not assist in obtaining a "Green Card" for Canadians.

Yeah, the Canadian Forces are so fucking slow it's disgusting. I applied and they told me at least 2 years to get security checked.

The Canadian Forces recruiters also told me that I would need to and get criminal records and credit checks to all the countries I've lived in which is Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.

As someone said, if you've been on the road for several years, you're almost not considered Canadian anymore!

Yet ironically, the Canadian Forces are in the news crying for people. They can't get enough people according tothem. But it takes them 2 years to do a security check on people who have been out of Canada longer than 6 months.

It's pathetic.

I contemplated joining the Army, and even tried to talk with a recruiter. I filled out their questionnaire, but can't seem to get them to respond. Granted, I am a chick, but I figure that I am not that undesirable for the armed forces. I even checked their requirements, and I seem to fulfill them.

Ah well, my parents would be less than pleased if I were deployed somewhere, anyhow. (If they even got over the original shock of me being an army girl, that is.)
