Hello,
I would like to hear from past and present " foreign "faculty at Seoul Women's University, as to the general working conditions there. Would you recommend it to someone as a " good " place to work? Any and all constructive comments welcome. Thanks in advance. |

Minor leagues.
It's a good place to work for a year and to get into the system, but you'll be worked like a dog.
Still, good students. Nice location. Some of the housing is decent. |

Great first university job - it's a foot in the university door, even though it is a unigwon.
The contract is for 20 hours a week (at least it was when I was there) and they sometimes "ask" you to do OT. They have mandatory summer/winter camps of 6 weeks each, which are full-on, morning to evening days, including Saturdays for a half day.
The good points? Great, motivated students (for the most part), a very good curriculum, hard-working co-workers, and very decent housing (cottage houses on campus - single housing - recently renovated).
pm if you have specific questions. |

Actually, they just introduced something called SWELL 2 (or some such thing) and some teachers are putting in around 30 hours. |

Something would swell. "Who wants an A+?!?" Let the swelling begin. "A+ going once, twice, SOLD! Ahhhhhhhh!" |

That ain't a step in the right direction. Why don't they just hire more teachers? Remember when you were high on Inju? |

New visa regulations. Two of the new teachers are delayed and others are taking up the slack. SWELL 2 is a new things with some bug to work out. Overtime for SWELL 2 is north of 30,000 an hour.
Inju has never had a chance to show if she's good or bad because the higher ups are brain fucked and she has no power. |

I was there for 4.5 years. The students and co-workers were great. Now:
I work 13 hours a week
Get paid more
Longer holidays
The intensives are voluntary and only for 3 weeks. 6 Hours a day. Get 3.2 million on top of regular pay
The office staff smiles, are friendly and very helpful
No Meetings to attend
Huge office with one's own computer and phone.
No one cares about my age. I am the youngest foreign Lecturer on staff.
Do not have to go to immigration: the office staff does it for you.
