This link was posted it on another thread by Regicide. I'm not sure if it for real or not, but it is pretty funny.

Have a look and decide. Some of the stuff they say on there is fantastic..

Argument Three - The impossibilities of holding unsecured objects in place on a curved surface

....

2) Falling off

Thats my favorite so far...but I'm still digging. Does anyone know any more about this particular subject?

There really is a Flat Earth Society, but the one I'm familiar with is satirical.

My understanding is that, contrary to popular belief, it was never really a widespread idea, at least in the west, that the earth was flat. The idea that people once believed this was made up much later on, to mock the scientific ignorance of earlier generations. So the people who today claim to be flat-earthers aren't the last remnant of some ancient tradition, they simply picked up the idea from the mockers and went with it.

That the sun and the stars revolve around the earth, however, was a widespread belief.

Yep, it's the same group. Note this in their mission statement: "...and relying heavily on a callous disregard for the lives and well-being of our members"

I think they're funny. I see them as a send-up of conspiracy theorists.

Oddly enough, the Flat Earth Society is a bit of a marketing gimmick in Newfoundland, since some obscure nutter designated Fogo Island to be one of the four corners of the earth.

That ad got an awful lot of attention last year when it came out, and then disappeared. Who knows, maybe there are real believers out there, who got upset.

Well, that's false. What is actually a myth is that "they all laughed at Christopher Columbus when he said the Earth was round". In other words, it's demonstrably false that belief in a flat Earth was widespread before the age of exploration. Actually, belief the Earth is round [edit: I mean FLAT] was widespread up until the 5th or 6th centuries. Interestingly, a huge inspiration for a spherical Earth came from Islam and its mathematicians and astronomers. Those were the days, eh, when Islam was a modernizatiing force! Christians being schooled by Muslims! Laughing Thomas Aquinas in the 13th Century advocated a spherical Earth and the belief was widespread by then.

The one you're familiar with is different, in that case, from the one the rest of the world is.
