The weather is getting better, yellow dust season is almost over -- it's almost that time of year. ^^

I sent over all my camping supplies from Canada. Now all I need is a place to go. Preferably somewhere where it'd be OK to have a fire (or somewhere where no one will notice...)

Where are the camping hotspots (or even lukewarmspots) in Korea?

Man, camping... that brings back some good memories. I have camped at three national parks in korea. Seoraksan, Songnisan, and Gyeryongsan. All of them had pretty good facilities- toilets and places to wash dishes that is, no showers. In korea you can just go in to town and go to the bathhouse though, so that's no prob.

I doubt you would get away with a fire in a national park.

My friends camped at that beach where they have the mud festival, Right down the southern end. They burned a few pallets and let off some fireworks, so that could be an option there. They went in May though, before it got mad crowded.

I read somewhere ages ago that there is a bit of a motor camping scene in Korea. People parking up their camper vans etc. You might be able to pitch a tent at one of those places.

Did you check out any of the camping gear in Korea? I need to buy a new tent

Some of the islands off Incheon are quite nice. They are easy to get to (high speed ferries) and they can be prettty remote. You can find lovely deserted beaches to set up on and light a fire for company.

Deojeokdo and Jawaldo are nice.

Some good suggestions so far in this thread. I'll repost this from last year:

Gangwondo has plenty of nice quiet places off the beaten track. Starting in Hongchon and traveling along the 44 or 46, then shooting off on some small country road will often yield some good results. Personally, I've camped around Inje quite a few times and know some cool places near waterfalls / mountain streams. After Hongchon, take the 56 off the 44 towards Seosok, and branch off on the 31 or continue along the 56. The smaller country roads are a gold mine of secluded mountain areas for camping alongside nice streams. More than 2 hours from Seoul however.

Edit: once you hit Seosok on the 56, shoot down the 19 towards Heongsong. Lots of nice camping less than 10 kms from Seosok in secluded mountain valleys; some places are more popular, but there are nice quiet spots as well. That would take you about 2 hours from Seoul.
