Koreans are too nice.
Yes I said it. Me. Ilsanman. Koreans are too nice. Why in the world would I say that?
Just the thought that came into my head when talking to my students today. They were talking about Burberry men. One student asked 'hopw can we stop this?' Another remarked 'it's a widespread problem and it's hard to solve'. Bollocks. They can't solve it because they're too nice.
I was kind of thinking, when my daughter is in high school, some dumbass ajosshi exposes himself to her, she'd better not tell me. He will end up in hospital. That's if some other father didn't get to him first. Why are these perverts tolerated? Why doesn't some male student/father/boyfriend kick the shit out of him?
But to answer my student's question was quite simple. I suggested eggs. When you see the Burberry Man, pelt him with eggs. If he's in his car, pelt his car. He won't come back again. |

Hopefully, one day, people, Koreans specifically, will stop annoying you; and on that glorious day, bells will ring, children will sing; because, heaven on Earth, Ilsanman is free from the shackles of passive-aggresive oppression. He can sleep peacefully after years of torment, because Korea, finally, gets it.
Stop bugging Ilsanman, Korea.

I'm in full agreement. If the chance presented itself, I'd book the pervert an appointment with Dr Marten. I've wasted a lot of energy arguing with my wife that these guys are dangerous and should be treated as sex offenders. |

I wouldn't risk a half a second of jail time for these clowns, but I would gladly spend 100 or 200,000 won on making a gigantic poster of one of them with his license plate visible, or hundreds of smaller ones and posting them everywhere. I live in a small enough city that eventually I have to hit close to home.... |

That'd be a miracle, huh?
Another one might happen too. One day Sparkles might find his *beep* and actually use it.

Ilsanman, I'm a lot like you in that I tend to be disappointed in a lot of the Korean behaviour I witness day-in and day-out. I, like you, tend to complain about Korea a bit too much.
That being said, Sparkles has a point. He could have easily said that quote about me, and it would be very appropriate. At some point, us complainers have to look in the mirror. |

Dude, it's not complaining. It's pointing out how some problems (which every country has some of) can be simply solved. Just it takes a little bearing of teeth to do it.
Korea is violent but also non-violent at the same time. That was the point I was making.

I reckon that's fuzzy logic mate. Doing nothing about something is not being nice. Making people feel welcome in your country is nice.
I think the Koreans are too scared to do anything. Koreans are scared to ask to see the manager in a shop where they are getting poor service. Koreans are scared of what other people will think. And when they do summon the balls to actually take action they seem to loose all rationality.
A real life example would be my recent visit to immigration. The pleb at the desk cut up my documents because they were unsuitable. It's a long story but i explained to him that the documents were not his to cut. His attitude was curt to say the least so i asked to see the boss. After sitting for a minute with a petted lip and his arms crossed Mr Pleb went to get his boss. His boss resolved the situation and from then on immigration have been nice as pie to me.
At the other side of the office a Korean middle aged man was shouting at the pleb serving him. The pleb yelled back and came round from his side of the desk. Fisticuffs were avoided thanks to a third party intervention. |
