Lately, I have been looking into a public school job in Daejeon for my next contract in Korea. I will be getting married in August, to a Korean girl, and I would like to relocate from Buyeo. I have done some searches on Daejeon and I know the typical route of obtaining a public school job.
However, I would like to narrow it down a bit and perhaps go after a high school job and at the very least a middle school job. I really don't want to do elementary schools. So what's the best way I can go about it? Do I have many options or are they limited? Thanks in advance. |

Get your Korean girl to help you re-do your cover letter and resume in English and Korean (bilingual resume so the principal can read it).
Walk around the neighborhoods you want to work in.
Drop off your resume at the schools that catch your fancy.
10 resumes will get you a couple interviews and a job within 6 months (they may have to wait for their current E2 teacher to complete his contract) - 25 will land you a job within 1 month. This is NOT absolute but the odds are GREATLY in your favor.

I have been around Daejeon on the weekends but I can't say that I know the regions that well. I would have to say at this point that I am favoring being around Dunsan and that area since it seems more modern. It would be nice to be near the subway line. |

You've got the right idea. You should go for what you want and if you get most of what you're looking for, you are a fortunate fellow. Go for it. Good luck on getting a job you want and where you want in Daejeon. I moved to new city recently, and I thought of doing a traditional job search by going around to the schools in the city where I now live, but I like my current job a lot. I didn't get what I originally wanted (middle school) but my new job is working out well. Cheers. |

You can apply directly to schools, or to recruiters that have access to metropolitan and/or provincial offices of education. Such recruiters are a good avenue into public school jobs outside of the limited and competitive EPIK hiring window. |

thanks Guajiro for yor reply.
Do you perhaps know if the application procedure (if applying directly to a public school ) would be the same as with epik, in particular for an f-series visa holder? |

I haven't seen any recruiters advertising directly for Daejeon though. Can't you just walk into the Daejeon MOE and apply to work in their city? |

If you have an F2 maybe a University position would be more favorable for you. Some are still hiring now for late August and they will hire again during the Winter Holiday for March.
If you want a public school job private message me I use to work for the DMOE and I'm sure I could get you in contact with someone who can get you a job. I am not sure but all the public school teachers I know went through EPIK and had to do a mandatory orientation for about a week.
I also know a school that is losing their foreign English Teacher as she has to return home for personal reasons. It's an all girls middle school so I am not sure if they prefer a female teacher but again I can put you in touch with someone there. |
