|
|
I need to upgrade my monitor. I'm looking to buy something HD-capable, and I was just looking at a 42" HD TV for 690,000. However, can I be sure it's compatible with my SVGA output for now, until I can upgrade to DVI/HDMI?
Or would buying a big computer monitor be a better deal? The best I've seen is 30" for 500,000, which would seem that buying the HDTV is better...but the TV is made by Albas, which is no LG. I'd appreciate it if I could get some opinions on this...I'm trying to keep it under 800,000 and if the TV can hook up to my computer for the time being (And eventually my future PS3/XBOX360), that would make things a lot easier. |

Computer monitors are higher quality (better "refresh," finer dot pitch, higher resolution...) and more expensive. Choose accordingly.
You need to give the TV and video card models before we can tell you exactly what you can and can't do with them. |

Is this DVI-compatible? I see DVI Audio...is the RS232C a DVI input?
edit:
Spliff - I saw the 30" computer monitors, but for 490,000, I might as well just get a HDTV for an extra 200,000 and an extra 12". However, is it practical as a computer monitor? I see the max resolution is 1024x768

Computer monitors generally have worse color and contrast however. |

Not so much anymore really.
And if the max resolution on a 42" screen is 1024x768 it's going to look really blocky when you use it as a computer monitor. If you really want the TV go for it, but just don't expect to be able to use it like a real computer monitor. |

Get a full HD TV/Monitor with a 1920x1080 resolution otherwise known as 1080p.
37" is the smallest available and goes up to 50" (and probably bigger with a projector).
I'm surprised how much prices have come down for cheap HD TVs now. |

I'm always wary of LCD TVs with side speakers but that looks like a good buy and is a lot cheaper than mine.
The 37" that I have is perfect size for a computer monitor and just right for a lounge TV. Unfortunately the built in tuner doesn't work in my home country so if I had to do it all again I would opt for the tuner-less version and rely on a HD box (my current setup).
I think 37" are getting rare for Full HD TVs, though you can get a full fledge computer monitor at 30" (Dell, Apple, Samsung, Benq etc). |
