A couple of weekends ago I went to the riverside park and one of the walkways under the traffic had this really interesting high quality well thought out layout.
going down the tunnel you are forced to go up the stairs on one side or the ramp on the other. and then uturn - here is what it looks like from the top of the stairs
why would they force you to go up, make a uturn and then go down again with a cement wall blocking the way for absolutely no reason? The green brick you see is part of the sidewalk, which has cement pillars blocking cars from parking there. Hmmm let's build an ugly cement wall to force people to walk around it needlessly. Yeah that sounds like fun.

They probably had troubles with cars driving into the tunnel.
It is also likely that they had water troubles -- perhaps water was running onto the street from the tunnel? Or maybe they felt too many people were using the tunnel, so they put up the barrier to discourage them from using it. |
