soviet_man has stayed here a few times:
http://www.samslodge.com/
A nice Indian family runs it, good prices, *ok* rooms, air con, close to subway + skytrain. Supermarket + Korean style PC bang (run by an ajumma) just down the street. It is in Sukhumvit, not Khao San (this is good thing). |

Just walk around behind the temple where Sawasdee is located. There's tons of cheap places there. A cheap clean room will run you 5000-10000 won. If you don't want to carry your bags around drop them off at Sawasdee for 1000 won or drop them at the traveler's exchange for free. |

If you walk on Khao San road, you will see a Rikka Hotel/Inn. I think it cost me 700/800 baht plus an annoying 1000 baht refundable deposit (for the key). On the main floor there is an internet cafe, 7/11 and a travel agency/kiosk. The rooms were very clean. I liked it, but the bathrooms vents just go out into the hallway. So, if you make loud sounds in the bathroom, you might have some guests chuckling as they walk by. Anyways, good place to start for one night and the next morning you can look for a better deal before check-out.
Another place was the Boworan B.B Guest House. Owned by some Chinese-Thai family. It's not on Khao San, but it's a few minutes walk. I think it's across from the Boworniwes Temple. Rooms cost about 700 baht. Breakfasts are kind of pricey there. I found this one by accident, some shady old Indian-Thai man lead me to this place.
You'll get tons of people trying to get you to follow them for all sorts of reasons. Just make sure there are alot of people, and foreigners, around before you follow a guy down a street. |

sawasdee banglumphoo is ok. you might do well to wait and just find a spot on soi rombutri when you arrive though. there should be no problem finding a decent this time of year. people seem to like baan sabai, over in that area. no free internet, but there are internet cafes everywhere. |

Siam Inn is excellent and I think they run a special, like 4-5 days, next one is free? or 3 days? something like that. the restaurant downstairs is very good, they are in the middle, very tall building. one of the few w/an elevator. |

Having been to Thailand several times, why would anyone want to stay in, on, or around Kho San Rd? It's like Mos Eisley. Oh, saw the best t-shirt on Kho San Rd and my hat's off to the b@stard wearing it. It was the ubiquitous Che Guevara t-shirt but across the top it said, F*CK CHE. Too funny. Loved it. |

Rikka Hotel is definitely NOT a place I'd recommend - I stayed there one night thinking it would be worth the extra 100-200 baht - ! those bathroom vents don't just let room noises go outside - they also let in outside noises to the room - and they hallway is a huge echo chamber like you wouldn't believe!! I was furious - it was SO loud with people talking and walking around all night due to the club upstairs -
I checked out and moved over to the Siam Inn I spoke about in my other post - much more peaceful.
and yes, it also has an internet cafe as well, tho not as nice as Rikka's - but it's just a short distance away so you can go there if you choose |

because it's probably the best (certainly one of the most unique) international convergence(s) of humanity on this planet, is all. but then, maybe you haven't been around long enough to appreciate such phenomenon. |

Yeah, 30+ countries on 5 continents, in my more than 35 years but you feel it necessary to talk smack. Well played. Face it, maybe YOU haven't been around long enough to understand the Mos Eisley comment, or you wouldn't have said something so ignorant. Face it, KSRd is a cesspool. Well worth a look, and a gawk, but notheless, a cesspool. |

I would recommend D&D Inn, opposite Boots pharmacy. The entrance is inside an arcade but you will spot the signs immediately when you arrive. You can't book in advance, and there is no website for it, but it's one of the best known, simply cos it's one of the few budget hotels with a rooftop pool, and a nice one too. It's aboout 600 baht a night last time I was there (2006), pretty basic but clean, and does a good breakfast. Because you can't book up, you have to linger in the foyer at about 12.00 to get in line for a room, it's popular! |

i was racking my brains trying to remember that place! I stayed there a couple years ago and my friend was asking about places to stay but couldn`t remember the name. I think it was only 15 dollars a night or something for a double room with a swimming pool at the top of the hotel |
