Are English teachers livestock or slaves? The more I read about health checkups the more degrading the whole process becomes. I would like to know how many after doing this will not even have a pension or medical insurance at their hagwon. That would be interesting to know.

You forgot to ask whether the plastic bags for the stool specimens are free. They may be supplied by Family Mart. Cool

Everyone in Asia is X-Ray happy...

...it is not good to have so many x-rays...

...it seems that every place I work (in the past China...and now if I go to Korea) want this x-ray every year!

Did anyone NOT have an x-ray? Is there anyway to get out of it?

What's the purpose? Why can't we do just an old-fashioned TB test?

I want to have the medical done while I am in Seoul. However, I also want to apply for a Thai tourist visa and will have to drop off my passport at the Thai embassy. Did you have to show your passport to have the medical exam done?

I've been in Korea for 14 months...during that time I've had 13 chest x-rays. Six of them were for a genunine medical problem; the other 7 were all required for one reason or another.

Twice I've been notified that I was required by NHIC to have a chest x-ray and other tests, and would be fined if I did not comply. In one of those instances by boss was also notified at the same time; in the other, all teachers at the school were required to do it.

Two of them were under the new regs...

I think I've exceeded my lifetime maximum for chest x-rays in 14 months...

The medical here in Daejeon cost the school 120,000. I have heard mixed reports on schools paying. It will be a little cheaper now that there isn't a cannabanoid test included.

Is there any way to get out of the blood test? I'm fit as a fiddle, don't get me wrong, but I tend to ... pass out at the mere sight of blood. I mean, okay, as a trained First Aider, if you had cut off your leg and were spurting arterial blood, I could just about deal with that. But injections, cuts, blood tests ... not so good for my relationship with the floor.

My school paid. It was pretty quick but my boss is pretty clueless when it comes to the Immigration laws. He's really awesome but NOT a businessman at all. So we ended up going to hospitals all over Daegu because he didn't check beforehand where we could have everything done.

I had the following done:

Hearing test
Eye test
Weighed
Height measured
TB X-ray
HIV test
Drug Test (urine)

Took about half hour and I received the results the following day.
They did ask for passport but it was at the Immigration office so they accepted my SA drivers licence

I went to the one in Gangdong. A "government run clinic" is "보건소" and it's only 1,500 won. Takes a few days to get the results, though. It may be faster with a pivate hospital but definitely much, much more expensive. I did it at a private one someting like 3 years ago and it cost about 50,000 won at the time.

Nothing. My uni paid for it.

I went to the local hospital down the road from my apartment. It took about an hour.

Eye check.
Height measured.
Hearing check.
Colour-blindness check.
Blood pressure.
Piss test. (no "security" at all and test could be beaten in any number of ways had I needed to)
Blood test.
Dentist checked my teeth.
Chest x-ray.
