If anyone lives near Daehwa station could you give me some idea of what type of area it is. I known it's only 2 stops to Jeongbalsan but any info regarding shopping, bars, general vibe, environment, would be greatly appreciated. And if you know anything about Deasong Middle school that would earn you atleast 1 drink from me. Smile
Cheers.

I don't live there, but visit often. I don't know a whole lot... but. It has a pretty standard array of places to eat. All the western chains are there. There is a mall. The thing I notice the most is the amount of greenery and the general quietness of the place in comparison with other areas in Seoul. I would choose to live there if I could, just because of this calmness. I have seen a few westerners, but not many. The subway is convenient, but the area seems to sprawl a bit so I wonder how close you will be to the station. Anyway hope this helps a bit.

I live in Daewha and its pretty standard. Some good Korean places to eat, a cheap pizza place, and a couple watering holes, but if you want to have a bit more choice and see more people everyone heads to lafesta which as you noted is only 2 stops or 25 mins by foot away, and there you can get pretty much everything.
Daewha's convenient b/c of the subway, but still usually takes an hour to get anywhere in Seoul. Hongdae by bus in 40 mins.
Again as for shopping and other entertainment its wisest to head to lafesta. there are a couple noraebangs that are decent but very few people on the weekends. Lotte mart is close for grocery shopping and such.
not too much else to say, sorry don't know anything about your school.
if you have any more specific queries let me know.

Daewha is a very nice area. It's right next to Kintex. Ilsan in general is a rich middle class suburb. At the weekend (especially Friday night) head to Lafesta and go to Bar Boom and Rosenbrau to meet foreigners. Nightlife is good and almost everything is within walking distance.

It's very close to the best part of Ilsan. You'll love the area. What's the name of the school?

The name of the school is Daesong Middle School. They have a website, in Korean, with this map that one of there students drew: http://daesong.ms.kr/?act=doc&mcode=1017 Very Happy

Thanks everyone for the info; very helpful in helping me decide.
Cheers and happy Easter.

There's a GOOD Korean gym in the building right next to the Daehwa subway station.
There are a lot of good restaurants on the way to La Festa.
Don't forget about Lottemart just down the street, too.

OP, you are in a GREAT location. Wink

Daewha is close to Juyeop and Jeongbalsan stations in Ilsan and the best bets are Western Dom and La Festa. The popular Western bars seem to be Torros and Bar Boom. Homever and Kim's Club have pretty much everything you need for your apartment as well as groceries and clothes.
This part of greater-Seoul is nice and Lake Park is a perk, but there aren't many Westerners and it can be really difficult to meet people. Also Seoul is about an hour away by metro so if you go out at night, you have to take a cab home (metro stops pretty early).
Best of luck!

I lived in Ilsan for years, some of that time in Daehwa. I was constantly in fear of the Norks attacking. I didn't sleep for almost 4 years. It was tewwible.

If it wasn't for Ilsan's nightclubs, room salons, massage parlors, good restaurants, foreigner-friendly watering holes, the fact that it's on the Seoul subway line, etc., it would have been even more tewwible.
