new to korea and craft/sew for hobbies.
havin a tough time finding a sewing machine at a decent price (under $200)
checked out dongdemoon - mostly industrial machines.
went to eujiro 'sewing machine street' - couldnt find anything for less than $200.
i just need something basic.
is there something in korea similar to yuzawaya in japan?
or michaels/pearl/joann fabric in the states?
any help would be awesome.

Rats. I've been thinking the same thing. I just can't bring myself to wear the frills upon frills, and reckoned I'd put my skills to use after three years of complaining and shopping back home.
I think your best bet is online. I'm going to talk to some Korean friends to help me out, and if I get any more info, I'll let you know. |

Sewing machine store called "Sewing machine department store" (but really just a tiny store) - Hongje Station (orange line). Not positive of Exit (possibly 3?) but head back toward Muakjae Station, toward Pizza Hut/Samsung Digital store. About 100 m from exit. Not been inside myself but I know they have sewing machines.Hope this helps. |

I went for a walk at Seoul Forest today, and on the way from Ttukseom station, I passed a sort of flea market with junk sellers peddling the craziest objects. Quite a few of them were selling sewing machines! Some were old, some were new, most were very very basic.
I picked up a machine for 20,000 won! It looks brand new, but it doesn't do anything but normal straight stitch (not even a zigzag.) I don't know if it works yet, but I'm pleased to be able to mend things at least.
Now, does anyone know where to get patterns? Can I buy them in Korea, or do I have to order them? |

I just saw a whole bunch of sewing machine shops today. I was in Euljiro right next to Chunggechun. There were at least 8 or 10 shops that I saw. In reference to the person who told you to try Yongsan, I'd say no...I haven't seen sewing machines there. |

In reference to the person who said they haven't seen sewing machines at Yongsan, I have seen sewing machines at Yongsan.... That's kind of why I suggested Yongsan. |
