My gut tells me this post might belong elsewhere, but oh well here goes...

What's the going price for an X61 these days in Yongsan? Dual Core2 (2.0 or higher), 2 GB RAM, 160G HD, XP PRO English, MS Office Eng.

Apparently this particular spec can be had for about 1.2 KRW. I wonder if its cheaper to purchase in US -- all things being equal.

Thanks in advance for your comments

I was going to replace my Thinkpad with a newer model and after checking out the prices at Yongsan, decided I couldn't justify paying the mark-up here. If you need windows in English, you'll have to buy it...Thinkpads here only comes in Korean windows. If you have someone who can ship it to you from the states, it'll still be cheaper than buying it here. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of doing that so I opted to buy a dell notebook here in Korea...a little bit more expensive than buying in the states but was quick and was able to get windows in English.

I've moved it to the correct forum and bumped it.

Have a lovely day!

The OP's gut feeling should have led him to post in the "Technology" forum...

Sounds like he got a good answer here, though, and I may have to soon replace my four-year-old Toshiba notebook that's literally falling apart (the hinges have broken, there's a white verticle line down the middle of the screen, and it's gotten as slow and error-prone as my typing...)

They are running between 500-600k won (as of Mar.29).
Check the laptop places at the son-in plaza (yongsan).

I've opted to buy a T41 (14.1") from ibm.com (US) fully loaded, equipped with XP Pro, MS Office. 2.4 GHz, 2G Ram, 120G HD, etc.

$1149/$1229 (taxes + includes 2nd day air).

I just can't seem to get over the "Made in Korea' or rather 'From Korea' factor ...

Thanks for your comments
