Um, why is being called female an insult? I'm rather surprised by this take on it. Anyway, the reason IGTG has been refered to as 'she' was simply that in the past he or she made some mention of their personal circumstances which suggested to at least one poster here that he/she was in all probability female. I know for a fact that some posters genuinely assumed s/he was a woman. That was certainly the case with regard to Gopher, who thought he was addressing him/her correctly (I know this because my curiosity was piqued when I first saw IGTG referred to as female, and since in that particular instance it was Gopher doing it, I asked him about it). It was not intended as some strange method to belittle.
Surely being mistaken for a woman is the ultimate compliment!? |
So if I called you a man, would you be insulted? Back to all seriousness, a few were concerned about how IGTG has been addressed in general or treated. Now, I am not saying he has not engaged in some abuse, he has done plenty of that in the past and the like. Can we just call him or her guitar or something instead of music man, her, or whatever.
The person has a guitar, so it's safe to just say. Look, guitar.......
Back to the posting issue, I don't think more than 4 posts should be posted in principle, because there are so many members on the board.
We have double the amount of regulars. Who spiked the punch and told everyone about it? |

It seems to be more a question of aesthetics - like too many billboards on the highway ...
But these are more public service-type messages - not commercial (like real spam is.)
Neither "igotthisuitar's" nor "regicide's" threads/posts have ever bothered me - and sometimes I'm in the mood to carefully read them ...
Arbitrarily restricting the daily number of posts seems like over-regulation. |

Seems like?

Generally, yes ... that's been my impression as well.
Find there to be much more "hassle and stress" through having to cope with unsolicited commercial bombardment of my email
than any web-forum i've ever been a part of.
Who's forcing people to browse threads?
Don't like what you see? Come across the same bit of artistic handi-work more than once?
Here's a tip: that's why God invented the mouse.
"CLICK & SCROLL" works like a charm
Feeling stressed & disturbed? As the forum theme states: it's "CURRENT ISSUES"
Lately however, the focus ironically seems to be more with pursuing "censorship" & restricting participation, than facilitating & embracing discussion. |

Since we seem to be headed in the direction of a limit on the number of topics one can create per day, we seem to be creating a valuable commodity. Can we transfer our unused posts/topics to another poster? We could set up Dave's post/topic exchange on the Buy/Sell Forum. We could have post brokers and a futures market in anticipation of heavy posting days.
Of course, if posts are not allowed to be exchanged, then private exchanges will take place by PM. This underground black market in posts could lead to a Dave's organized crime syndicate.
Dangerous world we are creating here on Dave's. |

Dave's is a dangerous world? Will I get blinded if I don't wear sunglasses?
"Dave's so bright, I've got wear shades....things are going great and they're only gettin' better....".
This idea of limiting threads reminds me of World War II rationing or something. Do we get tokens for that? I didn't bring any with me. I have some in my storage unit back home... |

In this case, they are both right and wrong. They do not understand the difference between direct criticism and personal attack. Concluding that a position derives from Orientalism or is unreasonable is no different than calling someone an idiot to them. Once, when I interrupted someone's diatribe against the Great Satan with respect to U.S.-Latin American relations, to cite another example, and I explained that Latin Americans have a long history of coups, violence, and torture on their own, someone screamed that I was insulting Latin Americans. And, this notwithstanding, frankly, sometimes they deserve to know that they are speaking as idiots, too.
What do you call this, by the way?
Same story, thread no. one
Same story, thread no. two
This represents but a minor example. Usually it exceeds five and comes closer to ten reprints. Paper-hanging style: as in hanging propaganda posters on every street corner to force everyone to read them... |
