Do people do this anymore? You know, collecting the letters, photographs, and other assorted documents to prove a marriage is sincere and not a green card scam.
Some have said it's difficult/impossible to get joint bank accounts and other things in the two names of a husband and wife here. What CAN you get issued in two names in Korea?
Just curious... |

Hello...
I am currently undergoing the immigrant visa process (although not with a Korean) and have found www.visajourney.com realllly helpful. There are all kinds of little tips and ideas and helpful people for this long and winding process on that site. Good Luck! |

It is a good thing you are looking into it early! The amount of documentation required (for things like cards, letters, etc.) does seem to vary if you are already married or not, if you have kids, etc. Make sure you are up to date on US Taxes - at least the previous 3 years from whenever you start the process! |

Also, it REALLY helps if you get lots of pictures of you too together in front of recognizable landmarks to show that you have been places together. You can also keep concert tickets, plane tickets and travle itinerarys. Get your friends to send lots of postcards addressed to the two of you and proving your relationship will be a walk in the park.

Sex tapes work great too. It shows that you are in a loving and caring relationship. Just don't send one of a threesome or orgy. Might send a bad image. |

Photographs showing the two of you together, with both sides of the family, with date recordings in the corner if your camera does that(or, someone that has such a camera).
You should look into the Green Card process whilst in Seoul Korea otherwise it will take 6/7 months stateside waiting for the two interviews IF everything goes well. Your partner must have sufficient funds if sponsoring self(US$75k), or someone willing to sponsor him. That's why getting the process started early can save you money and time. |

Without knowing OiGirl's situation or plans, I would agree that doing the process while both of you are still in Korea (if you are married already!) is the easiest. I am doing this through India, and the process (if we get the visa at our interview this Thursday) has only taken 2 months, while if the US citizen is in the US it can take up to a year or more.
The only problem with this route is you have to have a source of on-going income in the US (job) which is not really possible while in Korea; assets equal to 3 times 125% of the poverty level (for two people, that is $52,500 for 2008), or a co-sponsor in the US earning 125% of the poverty level for their family plus the intending immigrant. |

How did it go up so high from 2006? Are you talking about a K3? Or do you mean this (my link) is the level if you have a job IN the US, but assets level must be higher?

If your US partner IS debt free then maybe having joint bank accounts is OK.
I know nothing of joint acc.s in Korea but I'm sure it could be possibleWrite a really big name consisting of both your names on the application and score two ATM cards.. |
