I started working in Korea in May 2007. I will be here a year on May 21, 2008. That's the 330 days for taxes. But since the tax year begins in January do I not qualify? I'm a little confused about paying taxes if I started teaching in Korea after January 1, 2007.
thanks for the help |

You should still file this year for the 2007 tax year.
You will have to pay tax on any income earned in the US before you came to Korea (or while on vacation from Korea). You will be exempt from taxes on your Korean income.
First, file for an extension so you can make that April 15th deadline (though I hear all overseas workers get an "automatic" extension. I dunno, but file for the extension, it's easy).
Second, after you have been out for 330 days, you have 30 days to file. So in April 2007, you personally will have been out for 330 days. You can file then as you have met the 330 days.
I didn't know what to do my first year when I had US and Korean income. I paid a tax agent and paid a freaking $275 US.
Now, looking at his paperwork, I could file on my own with no problem, as I did this year (but with only Korean income).
My friend swears by TurboTax. Pay $40 and it will take you less than 2 hours, maybe less than an hour, to complete your taxes. |

There are other free programs out there as well, and some are free. Just google it. However, the free ones aren't usually as easy to use... |

You can use turbotax to file in Korea?
I'm in a similar boat. I got here on May 5th. I earned about 10k in America before coming here.
My hakwon closed down though after ten months so I'm not sure what and how to file in regards to my Korean earnings. I know what I made of course. Are there any papers I need to send with my Korean earnings?
If someone has successfully used turbotax in Korea that is what I'll go ahead and do. Anyone? |

Yes, you can use it to file in Korea. One guy I know uses it every year. |
