Wondering. When they're asking for the criminal record check, is it necessary to have the full British check, or just to have the Scottish one? I'm Scottish. I have the Scottish one already. I'd like for this to be just fine. Thanks!

Im Scottish. I got a British one. It took about a month. I wasnt aware there was a Scottish one - just regional (Lothian and Borders for me) or the UK one.

Ho ho, you have the same local constabulary as me...tell me, were you back in the good ol' Lothians and/or Borders when you applied for your CRC, or were you over here?

If you were over here, I may be sending a cheeky little PM your way to ask how you went about it. If you were back home, well, not so important.

Nice to hear there's someone from the same area though!

The one from the MET is the full disclosure, which will list all criminal activity (arrests etc), whereas the Scottish one is a basic disclosure and will only lists those convictions which are considered 'unspent' i.e serious offences that stay on your record for life.

The Basic Disclosure is fine. I first applied for a position in Seoul using a full disclosure, which listed a caution I received when I was 13 (25 years ago) for getting caught playing with an air rifle. Unfortunately (or not as things have turned out. I'm very happy in the school I was eventually posted in), this type of crime was listed as being a firearms offence and is described on the full disclosure under the category of Shotguns. Of course, the recruiter I was using pi55ed herself when she saw it and promptly threw it back at me an told me It'd be unlikely that I'd ever get a teaching job in SK.

Fast forward a month or two and I presented the same recruiter with a basic disclosure, which was obviously clean (the air-rifle offence being considered 'spent' after 2-years) and was on a plane bound for SK about 10-days later.

I can laugh about it now, but I seriously thought that that minor school boy misdemeanor from the early eighties was going to seriously damage my future chances of getting any kind of gainful employment.

I was over here. I downloaded a form of the internet and sent it with my drivers license back to the UK. My family helped me out as well. http://www.lbp.police.uk/freedom-of-information/data-protection.asp

The basic disclosure (from Disclosure Scotland) took a week. The full UK police check about a month. Actually, I didnt really need all those forms as I signed a contract before March but my new school wanted the forms so I got both.

Im actually from Granton (near where the junkies in Trainspotting came from...Muirhouse..aka - MOURHOOSE!!!). Where you from?
