I've got:

Antec P180 Case
Enermax 620 watt PSU
E6700 Core2 CPU
26" LCD Monitor I run at 1920x1200

My current GPU is a ATI 1950XTX. I actually have two, but due to some weird bug, when I changed from a CRT to a LCD monitor using DVI the crossfire via the dongle causes the image to wobble.

So now I only use 1. I'd like to start gaming again. I know that ATI has a new GPU coming out in June - but I don't want to wait that long.

Here's the rub, I don't want to move backwards. When I had my Crossfire up and running twing 1950xtx were about on par with a 8800GTX. So I'd like to get better than that. BUT I don't want to blow a crazy amount of money - maybe ~400,000.

The truth is, now is a HORRIBLE time to buy a GPU. ATI dropped the ball and let the 8800GTX rule for 18 months. Nvidia recent upgrades are barely better than the 8800GTX. We are at the end of an overly long cycle and anything I buy will be wasted money in 4-5 months once we hit the true next gen.

Maybe I've answered my own question - just hold on lol. But still, any suggestions?

Also, any easy ways to dispose of my 1950XTXs for even 100,000 won?

Yes, you have answered your own question. The only thing that will beat an 8800GTX is a 9800...and it cost about 700K right now. What game are you playing that needs more power than the equivalent of an 8800GTX!?

BTW- fix your dongle!!! It's a heck of a lot cheaper than an expensive upgrade.

Unfortunately, there is a known issue that seems to hit some people randomly:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33846405

It isn't my dongle. The crossfire cards worked great on my CRT since it wasbn't DVI connect. But on my LCD, via DVI, not so great.

So basically I have a 1950XTX paperweight.

I've got some cash to burn - I'm thinking about getting the 9800Gx2.

Thinking of playing some Crysis and some Neverwinter Nights 2. Maybe try World in conflict and company of Heroes. Running everything at 1920x1200 rez.

Thought it would be ~ 650,000 won since it is $600 at newegg. Who would have thunk that electronics are MORE expensive in Asia lol

Wish I could figure a way to make my Crossfire work and wait.

Bleh.

You can see the problem in more detail at:

If anyone has any ideas, it would be great.

There's nothing more than a few percent faster than an 8800GTX at the moment.

ATI 3870x2 and 9800x2 are too close to the 8800GTX to bother upgrading. Even in a few months I don't think there will be anything that much better than an 8800GTX.

Get a 3870x2 for only 450,000 and overclock it........ .. ..If you want something right away at a good price. You'll get around 45 FPS on Crysis with that card.

If I had my crossfire working then I'd be at about 8800GTX level. But currently I'm only at single 1950XTX level. So the 9800Gx2 is a pretty big jump. Would probably last me a year. I normally expect to pay ~$700 a year on video cards and upgrade the rest of the PC every 3-4 years.

If it's your thing to spend 700K/year on graphics cards then go ahead and buy the 9800. I think it'll do you for a year or so... Cool

It's much more likely that you have a driver issue or a PCB problem, than a broken dongle. Those things are pretty simple little strips. Hard to break.

Yeah my 1950XTX work fine alone. Is there anywhere I can trade them in for even 50k won each or something - without a lot of hassle? Not sure what to do with them once I upgrade.

Probably overestimated - I tend to want to pay ~$400 a year, not $700 - on vid cards. So this is a bit pricey. But it has been 18 months since my last upgrade...
