Man that's sad....especially when young kids.I saw a baby and a toddler in a motorcycle accident on the highway in Thailand...very bad...
Which leads me to my next point. Why are the adults in some coutries so bloody careless? I'm not saying in this situation or in all, because I know there's plain accidents and kids can get away from you sometimes, despite all efforts, but I've seen serious stupidity both here and in Thailand.
Kids standing up in the beds of pickups wailing down the highway...5 kids perched on the pick-ups fold down door, 30 kids in the back of one pick-up, parents letting their kids play with pens, pencils, near wells...ok, that'
s Thailand.
But in Korea I've seen kids unattended outside their school running around near traffic, kids on platforms running around, a busload of kids beside and around a bus on the highway that looked like it possibly was broken down. And what are this kids doing? Off to the side in an orderly fashion, away from the traffic-hell no-in the street playing leap frog and pushing each other around with cars whipping by...
The parents or guardians in many cases are to blame...

Then you can call Taiwan as "Cringe Island."
I saw 5 piled onto a 125cc scooter: baby, 5 and 7 year olds (guessing age), mom and pop.
Amazing.
Now update your site.

Hmm I wonder if anyone has proposed those doors being installed in Seoul.
Hey I noticed somethng interesting: at some subway stations they have a metal "fence' for about 6 feet on each side of the platform.
Is it so people don't think of running into the subway tunnel?
Also I heard in Tokyo they put MIRRORS on the wall you look at while waiting for the subway to come. The purpose is for people to see themselves, and think twice before jumping.
I think we are all agreed, it is a huge problem and something needs to be done about it! |

go take your trolling to other places. what i stated was a sensible continuation to the points raised by the op. what did you want me to say? oh yeah. such a shame. well yeah, duuuuuhhhhhhhh, it is a shame. i was merely commenting on the fact that considering the number of people the seoul subway system carries that now and then, unfortunately, someone is going to be pushed (by accident or on purpose) under a train. so, therefore, they should have the platform doors. ijit. |

Very very sad! But ... this is just another of the myriad of examples of the carelessness with which many Koreans treat their children. These little tykes are allowed to run rampantly all over the place, with 'mother' never blinking an eye.
I can't remember what the statistics are for accidents among Korean children between the ages of ??? and fifteen. However, the numbers are high enough to have raised the curiosity of the international community, who have felt compelled to write about it.
As a foreigner, I am slightly paranoid about standing anywhere near a train; I hang about in the back, against a wall (not a pillar), in case some drunken ajessi has designs of the nefarious kind. Also, some of the looks of hatred directed towards me and my friends were kind of alarming, to say the least, so I stay well back until the train has pulled in. |

What I can't understand is why no-one bothers to get a baby-seat for their cars. They put so much effort into making sure little precious doesn't leave the house for the first three months of her life, pampering them etc. then they just sit them on their laps in the back seat.
Crazy, I tell you.
And I have occasionally wondered about those two schoolgirls that got killed by the tank...I don't know much about it, but from what I've seen they could've just been walking in the middle of the road like kids do here.
No offense intended. It has occurred to me, though. |

I heard that in Japan, if someone commit suicide by jumping in front of a train, his/her family has to compensate the subway company for the delay....
I guess if you REALLY wanted to jump infront of a train, you'd better choose a line that is less busy... That's horrible.. |

I'll tell you something a bit freaky about this.....
....I was in Busan today and ever since i read this I'm a little cautious at the subway station. So I'm waiting at Soemyeon on a transfer to Jungangdong talking with my girlfriend and I'm talking about this to her and she we were commenting how easy it would be.
All of a suden there was an announcement that a man had been an accident at Busan Jin station where(you guessed it) a man had been run over by a subway. It was pretty freaky. it happened at about 3 this afternoon and all the subways were stopped for about 30 minutes. What was bad was at that station you could see all the blood on the tracks. They hadn't even cleaned it up. I'm going to be a lot more careful now. |
