Is anyone out there getting unexplaned raises? My pay just went up to 2.7 and I was given no reason, just a written message. I'm not bragging, just curious if this has anything to do with the new regs, teacher shortage, etc. Thanks

When I came into work today I found an envelope on my desk with 2,000,000 won inside and a note from the principal thanking me for doing such a great job teaching.

Suddenly "and then I found $5" doesn't seem like such a great story saver any more.

At my PS, I was included partly in the christmas bonus that the Korean staff get. Mint! I had to check to actually find out what it was, took some questioning, but very very happy when I found out.

If you're PS then you'll need to watch out with payrises that aren't included in the contract. My friend was bumped up a level and was paid as such for 5 months. Other schools didn't give their teacher the payrise. For some reason the school asked for it back, so he had to give back 1 million. Pain in the ass. It wasn't agreed in writing so they were capable of asking for it back.

Congrats on the sudden raises//bonus! Nice.

On the topic of raises...

How much more could I conceivably ask for if resigning? It's a public school. I think we go up 100K a month just for the next level, but can I ask for another 100K on top of that since I'll be at the same school? I'm not with EPIK or SMOE or anything...direct hire.

One of my buds who has been here 5 years told me to question anything you want on your next contract if you renew.
