I just got an email from customs saying that I need to pay the delivery person about 80,000 won for a 400$ US clothing shipment. The tariff on clothing is 23% apparently. There were some people on here who thought it was 10% so you might want to take this into consideration before you have orders shipped here. |

that sounds about right. on a $180 order (including shipping) from land's end they hit us with a 36k duty.
what you should do is keep the total of your order including shipping to under US$150 they wont nail you then. if over that then have it shipped to a friends place in the us, have them take off the tags etc and reship as used clothing |

yeah, the worst part about it is that they include the shipping charges, which were like 60$ US on their own. I called and was like "Why dont you just take a percentage of the value of the actual products, what does shipping cost have to do with it?" and the women said there was no way around it. thats a pretty big difference on the cost of a purchase. |

I mailed myself used clothing without a charge. Basically came in winter and mailed myself my summer clothes. |

Don't forget that the post office includes the cost of shipping when calculating tariff. I lived in Japan for 7 years and never once paid a tariff. Nice little scam the Koreans have worked out for themselves. It's one thing if this country offered wetsern sizes but they don't - at least not in any variety and at a resonable cost. |

I've recieved about 10 orders from landsend and llbean in the last 6 months, and always kept them under $150, for the value of goods. haven't had to pay a dime in tariffs. |

Yeah, I was planning to essentially do the reverse. |

It's 60% on many electronic goods.
Gotta make sure Samsung and the chaebols get their cut of the import duties. |

I did that on the way back to Canada too. Getting the boxes now. Mailed myself about 5 boxes. Sent them by surface mail. Started mailing them last couple weeks of February. So budget about 6 weeks. |

Can't you get around that if you have the products ship to an address in America and then someone can mail it to you from their home address? |

I didn't have much problems with the items I had sent to me, it totaled over the $150 but only with everything in the box and it was so mixed up that they probably thought it was a pointless to try to fidn out how much to charge.
At least duty on food and supplements aren't implemented. At least I haven't seen them when ordering through a Korean site for my stuff... W5000 for international shipping... hell yeah |

I found out about the Nazi tariffs when they (korean Customs) took my x-mas package from home and demanded some obscene taxes on the package, which was declared as a gift, had no price tags, and was clearly wrapped. I was yet again disgusted by dodgy Korea when I had to pay taxes on my own Christmas gift from back home, which turned out to be just a pair of shoes, a jacket, and a wallet, valued at less than $400. Since that point, every package I have ever gotten from a business or individual has been opened, and korean Customs has put their filthy little mitts all over it. |
