This has turned out to be a very bad thing for some.

In a new twist to the recently-removed cannabis test, the ministry today noted that they will now collect a small hair sample from all incoming teachers upon application for their ARC. According to the immigration website, there were too many complaints about difficulties in getting the correct urine test done.

It was initially reported that the 혈액내 약물의 존재 test would be dropped all together, however to ease entry of teachers, hair samples will be taken with results to follow soon after.

The site said that this will relieve the stress on schools of trying to get the check done in advance of an E-2 application and further streamline the process.

There is also this line, which says something about hair/DNA testing and disease, but my korean isn't good enough to figure it out: 예를 들면, 사람의 머리카락 하나에서 추출된 DNA는 질병과 관련된 개인의 유전적인 성향을 유망한 고용주나 건강 보험관리자들에게 알림으로써 경계심을 갖도록 하는데 충분할 수도 있다.

Is this an April Fools day joke? Hair testing is even more expensive than urine testing.

I was wondering why they didn't do this to begin with since I've heard the legal columnist in the Korea Times talk about how, anytime one is in police custody, the police will get such a hair sample, legal or not, and check you out for drug use.

The only place I guess I've ever heard that such a hair test was so prohibitively expensive was on Dave's.

Translation: The will receive a severe punishment.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled last month and took vicodin (that the doctor prescribed)for the pain. So that means I would fail, thats not fair.

Does dying your hair make a difference on the test?

I am wondering how accurate the test is...is it specific for cannabis, or is it a catch all that it would pick up traces of prescription/legal drugs one did not claim on applications, etc., to not appear unhealthy....and would it pick up legally used herbal tinctures (phytoestrogens) and think they were cannabis.

So even if I do nothing illegal would the test turn it around and say I was using some drug?
