I have an LG PPS phone and suddenly this morning I can't send messages or make calls (it says the outgoing service has been suspended). Is this because Its actually BEEN suspended or I've run out of PPS credit? According to my calculations I've only used 16,000 of 30,000 topup, but maybe I'm miscalculating or missing something...

Regardless of how much credit you have pre-paid, there is still an expiration date for the service. You need to add a minimum of 10,000 won (IIRC) prior to the expiration date to keep the phone service active.

I see. No one told me that. So can I just put some money on it today and it'll be reactivated right? So in reality, adding 30,000 is actually just 20,000. Where does the 10,000 go. Pah. I only switched to PPS this month. That's a fast expiration date! Back home it's six months Rolling Eyes

No, you get credit for all the money you put on it. The thing is, you just have to purchase a minimum of 10K won a month. The money you put on still rolls over.

One way to make the money last longer is to also use a calling card. The initial number for the calling card is toll-free and thus doesn't use up any minutes on your cell phone credit. On top of that, the calling card minutes are cheaper.

I got a message on my PPS phone this morning, in English mind you, telling me that I have a certain amount of time to go in to my local carriers shop to reconfirm my account details with them or the phone would be turned off.

Realizing that the phone is already in my name and using PPS service, what's the logic in that?

If I remember correctly, LG was confirming cell phones that were not registered in the owners name. They would have sent you texts in Korean u might have just disregarded as spam. Anyhow, the message said something like "If you dont register your phone properly, we will deactivate your phone on April 1st"...

How long ago did you put the money on your phone? I have no idea what cell phone company I'm using (...yeah) but they told me when I got it that any money I put on will disappear if I don't use it within 60 days.

Still trying to figure out how to tell how much money is left.

If you read my posts, you'll noticed I switched to PPS just in March. It's registered to my name. Anyway I went down to the shop, and they said I have to wait until tonight before the phone will be activated (they took my 30,000 won and made a copy of my ARC)

Um, I just got a call saying they cannot charge my phone. I think I heard correctly, but I need to provide my bankbook (통장) again for some obscure reason. Why they just can't accept cash and be done with it? Rolling Eyes

Actually, I remember back when I lived in Daegu, I also had a pay-as-you-go LG cellphone. Basically, it was "hit or miss" if I could ever put money on the phone... Basically, I'd walk into the store and they'd either unquestionably put money on my phone, or refuse me outright for no discernable reason. If they refused me, basically I had to go a few days without being able to use my cellphone!! What a terrible hassle!!

Sometimes I would even borrow their phone to call some Korean friends of mine to do the translation (as to why they wouldn't accept my money) and my poor Korean friends couldn't get a good answer out of the store employees, or explain to me the reason. Then other times I'd walk in, and they'd look at my I.D. card, and just throw the money onto the phone without a question. That was sure weird, and my Korean friends had no idea what the problem was. To this day, I still have no idea! I swear I am not making up this story, and it really is one of the strangest things I've encountered in this country...

I hate, hate, hate LG!!!

If you have an ARC, LG will give you a monthly plan phone. No deposit. They rock. Stop using pre pay, KT and SK. LG Telecom. Simple, cheap, easy.

They won't give me one, because I have a D4 ARC. It's only valid until the end of each university semester. I can see I'm going to have to get a friend to register a phone for me AGAIN..

Funny thing, though, is that registering a phone for someone else is illegal.
