I just got a call from a friend who works at one. He got the news tonight. Apparently they're stiffing him on his final pay. His last day of work is Friday.

I would find it hard to believe that an entire franchise chain here is going out of business. Franchises in South Korea just are not the same thing as a franchise in one of the Big Seven countries. For example, in the United States, a local franchise is required to follow the instructions of the franchise headquarters. Here, it's the other way around. The headquarters is obliged to provide proprietary material to the local franchise but has no supevisory powers over it.

Whole franchises have been known to close at once.
ULI was very big in the late-90's~ early 2000's in and around Gangnam. But by 2004, all the schools were shuttered, including the main school in Yangjae.

But the previous poster might be right about the independence certain franchise schools enjoy. But then again, if CDI has a negative reputation, it makes no sense to keep a school open with a bad name. I think if that were the case, keep an eye open to the possibility that certain CDI schools just might change their name.........
