Anyone know what the situation is on this? I won't be looking to travel to Russia for many months but would like to know how difficult it is to get to Vladivostok, then get the train to Moskow. Sorry if it's been asked many times here.

Contact marlis.ru, get a Russian tourist invitation for about $20US emailed to you. Print it, then take it to the Russian embassy in Seoul for processing. A few days later you get the visa back. Book accommodation + your flights and that's it.

Vladivostok is no different to anywhere else in Russia as far as visas go. It is not a closed city and doesn't require any special permit.

A normal Russian tourist visa will suffice for Vladivostok, just remember to get it registered at the hotel you are staying at, within the first few days, otherwise you risk a small fine/bribe when exiting Russia.

There are less militsia on the streets in Vladivostok than Moscow (checking people's papers) but it is still wise to carry it with you at all times and to not waste time getting it registered asap once you arrive in Russia.

In Vladivostok, the main stumbling block for tourists is the price of getting transport from the airport to the center of town and the general high price of hotels.
