I am sure to get spliffed, ... splatted, spliced and splashed.

My contract is almost up and I'm ready to jump into a new job. BUT
I only want to work until Christmas, or around that time.
Being up front and honest about wanting to work 7 months won't land me many job offers. Everyone wants a full year contract and not many will do a 6 month.

My plan is simple. Sign on for a year and quit when I am ready to go back home. Losing the year end bonus and plane fare are not a concern to me since they wouldnt be on the table to start with.

What are some awesome stories / excuses / reasons / ... ( LIES OF COURSE ) I can use to give the place notice that I must leave and return to my homeland?

I just want one that will be believable enough for the school / director with out making me look like a COMPLETE dirt bag. ( I will admit this makes me a bit of a dirt bag. ) That way, maybe I can escape without losing my final pay when I give them proper notice.

I hope this turns out to be a fun thread.

One time, I was teaching a particularily badly behaved class & was not in the greatest of moods. The students figured it was 'playtime', and I was in the mood for doing something constructive that day. I sat down in my chair ignoring the noise around me & asked myself 1 question.

Are you wasting your time?

I looked at the clock and smiled. The students were wondering what was going on. I stood up, collected my things & simply left. With the principal chasing me outside to see what happened, I simply told him "You're wasting my time & you're wasting your money". He replied, "But the student's NEED you!".

"Yeah right" I thought to myself. As I put my stuff in my car, the principal grabbed my arm. I stopped, looked at his hand on my arm & said directly to him "I would strongly suggest you take your hand off my arm, NOW!" in a very calm but extremely firm tone. He took his hand off my arm and apologized. I got into my car, slowly backed up and drove away.

As I left the school gateway, I felt increadibly happy. All the stress just melted away. When I got home & my wife saw my face, she said "why are you so cheerful?" and I told her I just quit my job. She understood that it was very hard at times. You can come home so mentally drained from trying to teach students who don't care about how much effort you put into classes. A class that gets an awesome response in 1 school can be scoffed at in another. In most cases, my classes get positive reviews, but some "lower" level students tend to find my classes too hard or boring, even though they are very practical, effective and useful for their long term retention of my language.

Long story short, it was the right decision.

Fast forward to today, my current job pays *extremely* well. The students though are nothing that I've ever seen in my 8 years in Korea. I had one student stand up, pull his pants down & masturbate IN CLASS under his underwear. The KT didn't even seem so fazed. I AM wasting my time in this school, however the pay is substantial. I don't even bother staying at school after or before classes. I tend to leave since the school atmosphere & the loud yelling between teachers as they talk over noise to each other can be extremely irritating.

ALL the new KT's this semester want to transfer. The school is where the rejects go. In short, I'm stuck teaching actual idiots & extremely unintelligent students. Crying or Very sad

I'm slowly reaching the point where it won't be worth it anymore. Maybe Im venting, but many of these high school students are NOT good people & my patience around stupidity is not very high. Maybe I'll write a story like Ilsanman's on how I left a bad school, but did it on my own terms.

Maybe...

"Boss, I'm gay and I need hot, sweaty, gay sex with lots of different gay men. Oh, hey, by the by, would you like to go to the sauna after school today?"

Good chance you won't even need to give 30 days notice.
