Did anyone see with Bush getting intensely booed at the national opener?
I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.... I suppose he was expecting that...

I had the same reaction as bb did. Maybe a silent protest, like turning your back, would be better.

In some ways, I did feel sorry for him, but 4,000 soldiers died in a war and many people feel misled and many people have relatives in Iraq, so I am not surprised that he would get that reaction. Still, I wouldn't have wanted to be in the position Bush was in to be booed that way. I understanding the office of president, but I also believe in "Government for the people and by the people....". That's more important than the post of president, and the people spoke and let their views be known at a game... For them, Bush is their Nero.

Shows me how many Americans of the liberal persuasion lack class.

And he's tossed out better pitches than any president, too. The one a few years back was almost in the strike zone. This one was high but made it over the plate, not like the ones Clinton dribbled out.

I also heard lots of cheers among those jeers.

What makes you think Republicans like George Bush. He has an approval rating of only 29%. That would mean the overwhelming majority of Americans don't like him. Many of my Republican friends don't like George Bush at all, and you can include Libertarians. Who cares if he tossed good pitches, he and his government presided over a war which many feel was a new Golf of Tonkin stunt. It's not as bad as Vietnam, but it sure has cost way too much money and too many American boys died for a questionable war, that will serve the Iraqis, maybe, more than people in America. I don't care how the president pitches.

DC residents who go to baseball games are liberals? There wasn't that much booing. Last time I saw a world leader booed that was in Romania and Ceausescu was executed 4 days later.

Hey, American democracy is a pretty cool thing. No one is executed. The stadium doors weren't locked after and every tenth person wasn't killed.

Me, too.

I expected much worse, considering a recent poll held only 21% viewed Bush favorably.

Probably, if only 21% view Mr. Bush favorably then I would think among the 79% who don't at least a 1/3rd of them are Conservatives. Many people who vote Republican cannot stand George Bush at all because of the misleading of the public over the war and WMD and the trillion dollar plus cost to the war. Remember, 4,000 soldiers are dead and over 12,000 are wounded (maybe much higher now). For many, that would be more than enough reason to boo the president. I still wouldn't want to be in his shoes...

My POINT was that most conservatives would show more class than that whether they liked Bush or not. Are you that obtuse? And, anyhow, it was said half in jest.

28% of Americans are solidly behind Bush; even less for Congress.

He's had a lot of crap thrown at him and while he didn't always handle it well I shudder to think of how Gore would have reacted to 9-11. Then again, Lieberman might have set him straight.

blase:

Try not to stick pins in your Bush voodoo doll when you're posting; it makes it come out with funny little symbols. Rolling Eyes

You are saying that Republicans have more class. Supposedly, James Baker, who I do like, said "f____ the Jews, they didn't vote for us anyway....". Did Nixon act with class? Has Bush acted with class? What about Rumsfeld when he called Germany and France, important allies, "Old Europe". Don't forget how Clinton was treated by some on the Right. I am not saying Democrats have more class, but I really sniff at the idea that Republicans necessarily have more class.

I thought you only sniffed cigars.

I didn't say all Republicans have class. I said most conservatives show more class in THIS SITUATION. Jeering your president is a little different than calling sometime European allies "old."

Care to offer proof that Baker hurled that invective?

Well, I believe 20% of people had a neutral view of Bush, and 61% view him disfavorably.
