eliminate the drinking age. no minimum drinking age.
the whole "you can't do it til you are 21" is prt oif the mystique of it all. how many folks you know who have said things like "drinking was alot more fun when it was illegal"? de-stigmatize it. de-mystify it. |

There was once a time (a long time ago) when I thought Air Farce was a fairly good show.
But comedy changed so much and those changes just completely missed them.
Air Farce had some talented people but God that show was so very lame for so long...I am happy someone finally shot it and put it out of it's misery. |

I got a chance to download some of this season's 22 Minutes, and dear god is it embarrassing now that we have Colbert and the Daily Show every night. |

I interviewed the Air Farce back in 1988 or there abouts. Nice bunch. But their humor is firmly in the blue hair camp. They buzz into town. Get the name of the major, make a boiler plate joke about the size of his car.
Raising the drinking age is just stupid. Yeah, x number of lives will be saved but then crap lets get rid of motorcycles, rock climbing, etc. How much MORE of a nanny state can we take?
People are adults at 18 and we already delay an adult decision by a year. |

Drinking is an important part of modern society. Abstaining is perfectly possible and many people can interact on many levels without alcohol. The majority of us, however, need a little lubrication at times. The best way to do it clearly appears to be the mediterranean system of introducing alcohol in a normal way at a young age and drinking sociably at meal times.
In England, this isn't done and binge drinking is a much bigger problem here than in, say, France. Despite the fact that the French drink more alcohol than Brits on an annual basis, they have much less problems due to the way and when they drink it. Drinking is such a common part of society that it needs to be embraced rather than hiding it and thereby encouraging misuse. |

According to Dufouil, Carole; Ducimetire, Pierre; Ducimetire, Pierre Sex Differences in the Association between Alcohol Consumption and Cognitive Performance American Journal of Epidemiology Vol. 146, No. 5: 405-412, there's a positive correlation between higher cognitive capacity and moderate alcohol consumption.
Right now, I'm sipping a delicious glass of Vinho do Porto and Armagnac - the very epitome of sophistication and superb taste. |
