How do you get the pension office to enforce a hagwon owner to pay into your pension? I spoke to lady at pension office today and she said to talk to my boss. "its up to him IF he wants to pay it" Now I am thinking if he doesnt want to pay it, he doesnt have to and no one will enforce the law. Has anyone had pension come to your defense and made you boss pay it? Question Or were you fired righ away?

Tell your boss that if he doesn't pay into it, then he will have a problem with the pension office for not making contribution, as well as the labor board for violating the contract.

If the labor board rep told you it was up to your boss, she is an idiot. Ask to speak to a different person there who knows, and cares. If you don't have any luck, go to a different office.

I had a similar problem. The pension office AND the labor board came down on my boss, hard. You should have seen him trying to squirm his way out of it. "Oh, it was my tax officer man, he made a mistake, my tax officer man, tax officer..."

Dude couldn't admit that he was fucking up left and right, had to shift the blame to someone else.

Talk to someone else at pensions. Someone higher up. Be careful though this is going to piss your boss off. But what ever you do get your pension!

One of the problems in Korea is that most laws (that require pension, for example) have no corresponding enforcement laws. In other words, there's no penalty for NOT following the law, or at least there's no way to enforce the penalty if there is one.

On Jeju I know of a hogwon owner who laughs that the pension office has been telling her, and sending letters, for several years saying she has to pay pension...she just ignores it, so far with no negative consequences to her. She also doesn't enroll her native teachers in NHI, also with no negative consequences to her.
