I'm headed to Chuncheon for Chuseok and I was wondering if anyone could offer advice on what to do/see there. |

Definitely go to the 닭갈비골목 to eat. It'll run you about 8500 per serve, but I rate it the best place to eat 닭갈비 in the country and you'll most likely get free soft drinks and ice cream.
There's an animation museum on the other side of the lake that's pretty cool. There are two waterfalls that are worth checking out; the one that's close to the tombs is more convenient [so you can see the two sites].
If the weather is nice, try to go water skiing. I can't give you a good recommendation on where to go since my friends plans to do it fell through last time, but the tourist information both outside 남춘천역 [where you would come into if you're going by train] should be able to point you in the right direction.
Also, use a taxi. Walking between most things will take a long time, but a renting a bike might be ok if you're up for the ride.
Have fun! |

Is Chuncheon the only place in South Korea where you can try out makguksu and dakgalbi? |

are you serious? that's like asking "Is McDonald's only available in the US?"
Chuncheon is famous for these things, just like every region/city of Korea has a signature dish. But you can get them anywhere.

Yeah Chuncheon is famous for dalkgalbi but I prefer it elsewhere. They put bigger chunks of chicken with bones in Chuncheon dalkgalbi. Around these parts the pieces of chicken are smaller and no bones. There's a restaurant downtown here that serves kimchi dalkgalbi and it's absolutely amazing but wrecks my stomach every time I eat it.
There's a gorgeous waterfall near Chuncheon, but it's always crowded. I can't remember the name off hand. There's also the Island/Theme park thing where they shot some famous drama. I can't remember any of the names. Man it's hard to remember Korean names.. |

haha, I know, that must have sounded pretty hilarious about the makguksu and dakgalbi. I'm sorry, I'm not yet in Korea and am just trying to get a sense of things across the country there. It's good to know I don't have to make a run all the way to Chuncheon just to get some dakgalbi anyway! Thanks for answering my questions, and thank you, Underwaterbob, for the interesting information about attractions in the Chuncheon area. I heard there is a place there where college students like to frequent with their bicycles and just relax. I wonder if it is around this waterfall you mentioned. |

In the Seoksadong area of Chuncheon their speciality is to add a live octopus to their Dakgalbi mix as it is cooking. This is very entertaining and you can fight with your colleagues as to who gets to suck the eyes out.
Soyang dam is enormous and well worth a visit. You can go fishing there...rainbow trout are in the offing.
There are some botanical gardens north of Hupyeongdong. Wander through and see the wild roses. The main house has some interesting displays of lithographs etc.
Kangdae humun is where the students hang out. ( Kangwon Uni back gate). Beer... food...beer... anju...... beer.....anju. Feel free to smoke several cigarettes simmultaneously.
Myong dong has all the usual upmarket stores.. black yak etc.

Go to Soyan Dam and take the boat ride across the lake. there is a nice hiking trail there and temple to visit. Chuncheon has been one of my favorite cities in korea. |

That sounds pretty sensational, Kafkaesque and I-am-me. Chuncheon sounds like the place to visit in South Korea for a good time! |

Chuncheon is good fun. The Dakgalbi is excellent and you MUST do the go-karting...30mph with nothing but a helmet and a crappy roll-cage...so much fun! |
