I've come across some strange things that Korean teachers teach their students, but THIS takes the kimchi!

Today, my student told me she wanted to "get the rose". When I asked for an explaination, she told me (with help from the rest of the class) that one of the Korean teachers had taught them that this was an acceptable expression for asking to go to the bathroom!! Shocked Shocked

Has anyone else come across this expression?

Did the Korean Teacher ask if they want to "upgrade their English"? Why do Koreans question whether we are right or wrong when we are already the English speakers. Btw, never heard of "get the rose". You should ask the Korean teacher where she heard it. Must be a case of Chinese whispers.

I don't have (nor do I want) a co-teacher. From what I understand, this was taught to them by their regular English teacher. I thought that maybe he meant "hit the road" (wrong usage, but a correct phrase), but the students said that "get the rose" was what he said. I checked the internet, thinking it might be some obscure British or Australian slang, but nope! Makes me wonder what ELSE he might have taught them!

I thought it was middle school student maybe "surfing the crimson wave". Lots of cultures have ways to delicately describe our special time of being a woman. Thought maybe this was a new one. Wrong again.

Hmmm...maybe it's a translation of a Korean euphemism. I'll have to ask on of my Korean friends.

Can't remember which Scandinavian country this comes from, but my favourite euphemism for having one's period is "Communists are in the summer home." Heh.

My favourite is the French Les Anglais ont debarque.

Yesterday I had one student complain of having a headache. Her friend pointed to her and said 'Headache, no. Period pain. Yesterday, today, period pain'.

Bruce: Will you get the rose?
Jennifer: I'm so embarrassed. Just because I tooted doesn't mean that I have to take a dump.
