I love the Itouch but the slim hard drive has me nervous. I've seen the 32 gig model for around 520-530 thousand. I think the sixteen gigs for movies and music might just be too small, where the 32 gig might be okay.

Has anyone seen cheaper prices in Korea on this?

What about Korean brand MP3/Video players? Any recs? I've seen some with the tv feature built in but since I don't speak Korean that's not important to me at all. Sort of the same with the FM tuner.

Are there any competitors to the Itouch? I have not been able to really find any. I wish the Iphone was in Korea.

What are your thoughts? If you were to buy an MP3 / Video product for the playing music and watching video as the primary use what would you go with? Internet access would be of secondary concern for me.

Most people would recommend a Cowon PMP. You have to make a serious trade off.

If you want the extra capacity, you will have to sacrifice for a heavier, bigger device.

I have an 8GB touch and it suits me just fine. I have about 5GB of music, and that still leaves me with 3GB for video. Thats like 5 movies, or 8 1 hour episodes of a TV show. Every couple days, I just erase what I've watched and throw new video on my touch.

16GB should be plenty. You won't be able to load you entire library on your Touch at one time, but you'll be able to load a enough content to last you at least a week before having to load new video on there.

The PMP's have a lot more features and much greater capacity. Almost all of them will have English menus too.

It basically comes down to form factor vs. features.

The Touch has a load of features, is great as a music player/portable web browser/media player. However, it suffers from lowish capacity, and you'll need to convert most videos for it unless you get them from iTunes. Oh, and the Touch will fit in your pocket. (More on that later.)

The next choice would be something larger, something with a screen from 4-5 inches. These full sized PMPs generally have larger capacity, typically don't need conversion for videos, and have various other features. However, battery life for music is generally less, and the big downfall is that they are not really all that portable. (By which I mean, they don't fit easily into a pocket.) Not a big deal for some, but in the summer, I don't want to have to carry a bag around with me just so I can watch videos.

Do you want GPS? DMB? Internet?

PMP's range from around 300,000 - 600,000. Depending on features.

i'm looking for something along these lines.

wouldn't mind a device that plays videos, has decent storage, and a few extras.

dont want an ipod though ... but would like the dictionary and stuff.

cowon d2 looks pretty good ... but having more memory would be nice. more than 10gig, that's for sure.

any ideas??

I have a 4gig D2 with an 8gig card. Works great but you'll have to convert video files.

A good link for portable device info...

i-Station website..

PMP's are great. My i-Station V43 NAVI has become indispensable. But they will royally screw you if it needs fixed after the 1 years warranty has run out.

now, i heard some reason that sd cards bigger than the device's memory (eg, 2gig memory and 4gig sd card) didn't work.

obviously that's malarkey ... and makes the cowon much more tempting.

If you go over to the cowon forums, you'll find that that people are using 16gig cards without a problem. Good info here on all of the players.

Never heard that myself. Might be for older firmware though. Cowon is pretty good about updating firmware on most of their players. New firmware has allowed larger sd cards.

WRONG.

16 GBs let alone 8 GBs is NOTHING when adding video, especially the huge files the iCrap demands you to convert to.

Stop pimping the iCrap into something it's not.
