Anyone ever had one here?

Are they covered by insurance or how much are there?

Yeah, I had one about 7 years ago. Leaking blood etc.
Including consultation, colonoscopy, and follow-up, about 300,000 won. I claimed it back in full, from private insurance.

Just talked to my wife about it and she reckons that your Govt.Health Card should cover about half. Don't take this as gospel though.

I would also think that prices have gone up a bit since 2001.

Good luck.I hope it turns out clear.

I had one about 4 months ago and it cost 60,000. That was only with the standard school's medical insurance too.

It was a place in Daejeon. I don't remember the name but it was a private clinic. The service was excellent, the doctors spoke perfect English and made me feel as comfortable as one could expect to feel given the circumstances.

colon cancer is the number one killer of men

more than lung cancer, more than heart attacks

a simple colonoscopy can PREVENT 98% of fatalities from colon cancer

I saw this doctor for some gastro-intestinal problems last year, and the name of his office was "Anus-Hydrotherapy."

If I can find directions and the place, I will PM you with it. It was in Daechi-dong, a few blocks away from Severance Hospital. I'll look around for it.

When I went for the "yearly medical exam", they asked me whether I wanted one or a more intrusive ear/throat exam.

I opted for the butt because of what VanIslander mentioned.

I am going to go have one this year, as my father had colon cancer. Had they caught it early, he might have had a chance. Sadly it spread to other parts of his body and he died.

I don't understand why 'whatever' has a problem with this thread. It seems to me to be an honest and valid question. Every male should have one done after they hit 40, perhaps earlier if there is a history of it in your family, hence why I am going to have one.

A colonoscopy and consultation fee is about 160 000 won with insurance at our center.

The procedure involves a relaxant to help avoid discomfort.

If you'd like more details or a referral send me a pm.

A very good place to have this kind of work done is at Inje Daehak Baek Pyeongwon (Hospital) in Myeong Dong.

For starters, the doctor who does this work is (if what I heard was correct) the country's top specialist in Chron's disease.
For seconds, they have an international clinic with a nurse who speaks English and she is super helpful.

I imagine these would be two very valuable factors for a foreigner looking for this kind of medical care.

I'm surprised at the reactions of some posters about discussing this topic. Isn't colo-rectal cancer near #1 on the list of killers of men in the west? I seem to recall hearing there is also a very high rate of stomach cancer here?

I wonder what the impact is of all that gouchuggaru over a long time.

Well " whatever ", the reason that we are talking about this is as VanIslander said. I am acutely aware of this as I had colon cancer surgery 18 months ago( removed 20 centimeters of colon and a tumor about the size of a strawberry and am now hoping that they " got it all "). I am on a yearly recall for a colonoscopy and am tossing around the idea of returning to Korea, thus my interest in this subject. Believe me when I tell you, it ain't no fun ( the disease itself or the tests ) and as a couple of posters mentioned all males in the over 40 age group should get one yearly. I only wish I had done so earlier.

I remember my dad saying "When I'm 40 give me the damn colon exam, when I'm 50, when I'm 60. WHen I'm 70 to hell with doctors and bring on the chips and the booze!"
