Fanny. There was a Chinese girl at my high school named Fanny. Always felt kinda bad for her cuz even though she was cool I knew that people teased her behind her back. |
I'm from Scotland where Fanny has the more crude meaning than the American word but I had a Great-Auntie Fanny, until she died a few years ago It was short for Francis, her husband was called William so he got called "Willie" and their son was Richard, or Dick as he was called.
I swear, that isn't a joke!
Anyway none of my kids had English names and I was told not to give them ones. A few weeks ago a new Korean teacher started teaching English at the school and decided to give them names. Now rather than ask me to help she did it alone.
So I now how -
Shabbi?
Debbel?
Captain
Big Bang
Hero I
Hero II
The Master
Ami - pronounced Ah-me
Carris (I'm not sure if this is meant to be Chris)
When I try to adjust them to what I think they should be, or the closest English name they just argue that I'm saying it wrong.... |

Devil of a kindergarten child who is named "Angel".
Twin girls, one named "Cherry", the other named "Qury". Their Korean names are "Chae Bin" and "Gyu Bin", so I guess Mom was trying to give similar sounding names in English.
Elementary student I accidentally named "Spiderman". He loved Spiderman and when he came to class with a broken arm and everyone signed his cast, I drew the Spiderman logo for him. The next term he walked in and announced his name was now Spiderman.
"God". When I asked why, he said because God is great. I wasn't sure if he meant himself or the Christian version of God.
The best names were from my adult Korean Special Forces class. Batman, Superman, This Plus, Fila, Nike, Eagle, Romance Guy, Adidas and my personal favorites, Kiwi(because he had naturally light brown hair and always had it buzzed close so he looked like a Kiwi fruit) and Monkey(because everyone said he looked like a monkey!). |

One thing about which I am absolutely strict and immovable is English names. I will disallow all ridiculous names, change all mis-spellings and change children's names which are for the opposite sex.
Of course, I teach in a hagwon, so I have fewer students to keep track of and police. |

James Bond, who unfortunately had the voice of Bobcat Goldthwaite, Cartman, Sexyboy and the secretary named Heaven. These were all adults, who chose their own names. Sexyboy's was on his business card |

Sexyboy eh. Was he a business man, or a grown up kid? Cause one is funnier than the other. |
