Yippee!!! For me it is. I am sure everyone doesn't get this day though. I also had Dec. 19th off for presidential election day and some people I knew still had to work. |

What are you talking about? It isn't on the calendar and not listed as any specific day off. Is it a celebration day of some sort or what. Thanks in advance for letting everyone know. |

It's local election day. It's supposed to be a holiday from my understanding, but I'm sure not everyone will have the day off. Both of my schools are closed that day, good thing too. I would've been bummed to have one school open and one closed! My wife has to work her afternoon schedule, but her morning is off.

And as a bonus you can actually sleep in because the campaigners can't set up the loud speaker and do the stupid dances all morning. |

I seem to recall hearing that on election days, be it the presidential or municipal, if the place of employment is a 9-5 hour operation, then it must shut down, as people need to get the chance to vote. However, if it is an evening run business, then there is no need for them to close. So, those working evenings at Hagwons will probably have to work, while public school teachers won't. I don't know if they are using the schools as poling stations. I think they did during the presidential election. |

Is it a holiday? Is it red on the calendar? There's your answer. |

No, I have to work that day. As a rule of thumb, I seem to only get days off if they're red on my cell phone's calendar. If they're not-a-red, I'm-a-workin'. |

Public Schools have off? If so, what about after school programs in the public schools? |

I don't know about the afterschool programs. I know that all the public schools in my town (Hwaseong/Osan district) are off as well as the schools down in Icheon where my friend works.
As a previous poster (or two) said, it's congressional elections and a non-red day so I think it's up the school's discretion. I had the Presidential one in December off as well even though it wasn't a red day. |

At my school we get Tuesday off to really think about the country-changing decisions we're about to make. Wednesday we're off to do the actually voting. Thursday we're off to drink ourselves silly for the mistakes we realize we have just made the day prior. Too bad they didn't have that system in place for either of the rigged W elections. It wouldn't have mattered, but at least people could have gotten drunk to mourn having an idiot as the "world leader." |
