Indecent-exposure allegations against young boys probed
BY MIKE FAHER and SANDRA K. REABUCK
The Tribune-Democrat
Greater Johnstown school officials and city police are looking into a claim that three kindergarten-age boys exposed themselves to a female classmate this week.
Were going to continue to further investigate, said Barbara Parkins, Greater Johnstown schools superintendent. Were still questioning students.
From the information we have, there has been no assault.
The 6-year-old girl told her mother that the boys had exposed themselves and tried to make her touch them.
The incident allegedly happened Tuesday in a classroom at East Side Elementary School, 220 Messenger St. in the Hornerstown neighborhood.
Parkins said it is not clear what, if any, action school leaders may take.
If we do find anything, wed take the appropriate disciplinary measures as per our code of conduct and school policy, she said.
Cambria County District Attorney Patrick Kiniry said the report also is being investigated by Julie Wagner, the Johnstown Police Departments juvenile officer.
Under state law, children younger than 10 who are accused of committing a delinquent/criminal act may be handled through what are known as dependency hearings in juvenile court, said Cindi Wess, chief juvenile probation officer.
A juvenile judge could have oversight of the child, monitoring the childs behavior and home care and requiring counseling if necessary, she said.
Wess said it is unusual for a police department to file juvenile petitions against children that young, but added that it happens occasionally in serious cases.
By law, those proceedings are confidential and closed to the public, Wess said

It's so astounding to me, and I'm only 29 years old, that were I a child going to school now, and I and my friends did the things we did when we were little, we would be jailed as freaks and mutants.
So, now playing doctor, or just flashing the willy, might ruin some kids' lives. I read an article last month about a kid that had been suspended from school for having a mohawk. Another article I read talked about a first grade student who was expelled from school for using made up words in place of curse words, like 'fudge' instead of the F-bomb, etc. (Sorry, couldn't find text or a link.)
I'm pretty damn liberal, but I can see where guys like Stevemcgarrett and pluto are coming from when they rail against liberalism. This is ridiculous. And it's not limited to kids. Did you know in some states you can be forced to register as a sex offender for URINATING in public. Peeing on a dumpster after bar close does not make you a rapist. Somehow the US has encountered a perfect storm of bullshit due to the combination of conservative 'family' values nonsense meeting liberal political 'correctness' idiocy. Will we weather the storm, or should we just go out and have a crapball fight? |

This is just mad! Of course kids flash their 'thingies' around. For a breif time, I worked in continental Europe as an au pair, in several households, taking care of various kids of both genders under the age of 5. Without exception they all rabbitted on about their private parts, other kid's private parts that they had seen, and regularly tried to touch themselves, or other kid's private bits. All my au pair friends reported similar stuff.
Of course I told them it wasn't polite, and they shouldn't touch those bits in public, but I couldn't see any big deal. They were just little kids exploring themselves.
Both my young sons (aged 3 and 1) grab their willies as soon as their nappies or pants are free, and the 3 year old (who can talk) often discusses his (and other willies) quite animatedly. I'm sure if his brother could talk, he would eagerly join in this topic of conversation.
It's just what kids do.
The people who are initiating this stuff have gone quite mad and need sectioning immediately. |

Like all witchhunts, the one against child sex abuse is coming full circle. According to the Dept. of Justice, the majority of sex offenders against minors are other minors! We have also had a number of people investigating the issue or artists attempting to draw attention to the subject who have subsequently been arrested for their work. But the scariest part about this is that the state is being interjected now into the family. |

Well, kids are often curious about things. However, sometimes things go too far. I remember in Dallas a report that said there were 25 cases of kindergarteners being sexually assaulted by other kindergarteners. I have an explanation for that. It's rooted somewhat in the gang culture. |

I wouldn't be surprised if they were just other cases of typical kid behavior being labeled as "sexual assaults." |

I wish I could easily agree with you on that, Bacasper. In the Dallas area, many people don't know much about the underworld of gang culture. You have situations where girls are engaged in oral sex and little cousins are encouraged to take a part before they even know what sex really entails. That does actually happen. I am not saying it applies to the 25 cases, but this didn't happen in the white neighborhoods of Texas where there are hardly any minorities. Dallas is mostly Hispanic with Mexican Americans. I am not saying this stuff applies to most of 'em. It's just an observation. I hope I don't get in trouble for it...One of my colleagues was beaten badly by some gang members. He was in the hospital for a long time. |

So gangs are making kindergarteners do sex now? Are the gang members also in kindergarten? This is wild! I've never heard of such a thing. Is this a belated April Fool's joke? |

Bacasper, do you know much about gangs? Gang life is crazy, man. It is not a joke, man. In Dallas, main Hispanic gangs are the following: The East Side Homeboys, Varrio 13 (or just 13), and there are also the South Side gangsters. What do you want to know exactly? No, I am not joking about what I said. I taught in a gang environment; it was not fun. |

Yes, in kindergarten. It was in the newspaper. It happened. I have heard all kinds of stories when I was a teacher in Dallas. Many people tried to pretend bad things didn't happen in the schools. Have you ever heard of lockdowns? |

Is this the Kindergarten of the Damned or something?
OK, just answer one question: are kindergarten students gang members? |

I didn't say the kindergarteners are gang members. I said there relatives are gang members, and they end up joining. Many gang members have uncles and such in gangs. I was just referring to how the gang life can influence very young kids. By the way, some gang members wear innocent looking mickey mouse stuff, but it represents their gang. Why Mickey Mouse? Well, Mickey Mouse has the initials M.M., so does Mexican Mafia. Think about it... |

The whole "Sexual revolution" is what led society down this road. |

People used to marry at 12 and have kids immediately.
I supposed the obvious retort is that in some areas they still do that but with more of the kids and less of the marriage.
I agree with some of your points. There are alot of sexual, even pornographic images and situations on our televisions and computers. We overdepend on legal solutions when reasonable, common sense discussion could solve the problem.
You even missed one of the problems. The use of hormones and certain chemicals in food and beauty products can do terrible things to children. There are even instances of babies and toddlers starting puberty early due to these products.
The flipside is, all those things aren't symptoms of a horrible sexualization of children. They're symptoms of a sexualized society. And the argument that the US's sexualized society is causing the problems can easily be refuted by a look at most of the other first world countries. If anything I think our attempt to repress these aspects of our culture cause some of the problems. That puritanal streak is a pain in the ass.
But in this case... C'mon. Kids experiment. Kids should experiment. Kids have always experimented. And if we want healthy children we shouldn't make to big a deal out of this.
I think the problem does arise out of a basic world view, and that's how the liberalism/conservatism aspects cause the problem. Both sides have the "but what about the children" argument, but since they come from such different places, and ultimately want different things, the half ass compromise that is created by the two extremes serves no one. Rather than solving problems new ones are created. |
