I need to make a voice file to access from the classroom via email or to burn to disk, but not on tape.

Anyone know how to do this? I don't want to buy any software. I wonder if it's possible through Skype or something. Ok, thanks. Let me know if you know.

Do you have an MP3 player? I used to record my voice on my MP3 player and then would upload it to my cyworld account for students and I to access.

you could do the same and upload it to your email account.

You really should be asking the person who made you need this to buy you a: a mic b: an audio interface and c: sound production software.

Download audacity (legitimately free) and record yourself with your mic. Export to wav or mp3

I like to record conversations with colleagues (native speakers) and use them for listening classes. It is great when you record some people talking about a particular topic or get them to talk about a favourite hobby, food, friend, place etc.

Your laptop may have a voice recorder already built in:

Start-->All Programs-->Accessories

I've been using mine to record myself reciting my notes for an exam I have in 2-weeks. I save the Audio file, then upload it onto my MP3 player and listen to it when I'm out jogging or down the gym.

It's funny, I've been thinking of recording some listening exercises for my HS students as some additional activities for when they start preparing for their English listening tests. If your school PCs are networked, then you can just upload the audio file along with a transcript etc and they can download it themselves. Alternatively, just download it for them onto their classroom PC. I think it's a good idea being as most of the kids over here seem to have MP3 players. It should be pretty straight forward to do. If you don't have a mic built into your laptop, then buy a cheap pair of earphones, plug them into your speaker jack and use them as a microphone.

I do this often... sometimes for classes and sometimes recording my friends when I study Korean.

I also make videos.

Much thanks. BSDos, I'll check my lap-top to follow up that suggestion. It'd be the simplest way for me to go.

Just use voicethread www.voicethread.com Application of the year and probably (IMO) of the decade. Like what the chalkboard did for the 19th century classroom.

You might also consider chinswing.com I like it but it isn't near as userfriendly and visual as voicethread...

Just record and put up an image. You can access and download the file from anywhere. Educators for $10 bucks can apply and get an educator's account no problem...unlimited voicethreads for educational use. See some of mine here http://voicethread.com/#u3968

I'll be promoting some of these this year -- great speaking practice for students and please send your students there! I just made a SONGthread tonight and you can be the first to record a song, if you are brave!
