Most gyms I have been to, including the one I use play this awful screeching ballad filth that has nothing to do with pumping iron or even doing cardio. You need motivational music for that. Does anyone else have an issue with this?

What's worse is the shitty techno-type music the old people play on their portable speakers while they hike on a mountain. Being crowded takes away the natural feel to it already. Having your awful, electronic music blaring for all to hear should be illegal.

At the last gym I went to, they blasted techno. So when I listened to 'Maiden, 'Priest, Motohead, whatever, all of it had an annoying dance beat to the music.

Back in the US, I would just hear Clear Channel radio everytime I went to the gym. So I took my IPod and I do the same in Korea.

I honestly can't figure out why anyone would go to a gym here...except maybe in the hope of meeting someone of the opposite sex. I find I can get a quality workout at home with a few dumbells and free weights, without the myriad of annoyances that come with a Korean gym (bad music, Korean men with compensation issues, the same or other Korean men who feel the need to tell me the "proper" b.s. techniques, waiting for equipment while people lounge around doing nothing on a machine, having guys stare at my junk in the lockerroom, being around guys blowing their pubes dry...etc). Not worth it.

Eh, my gym is a dungeon and the owner used to compete. Dumbbells go up to 80lbs so it's OK; not optimal but ok...
