alright, i'm wondering what people around my age do with their free time here in Korea. I'm not particularly talking about those who have kids and a family here, but those who are single (maybe w/ a gf or bf), or even those married.
i'm 32, and the nightclub thing just doesn't do it for me anymore....as for hitting the bars to go drinking, that was something that i got a lot out of in my 20's...not so much these days...
so what's being in your 30's got for entertainment? |

*The one thing I've started to do a lot more with other native teachers in my city is to go Bowling. In England it costs about 10 000 won for one game. In Korea it only costs 1500 won! It'd be rude not to.
Like you the crowded bar scene just doesn't go anymore. Why do I want to stand in a 30cm spot and get pushed around and not be able to hear the person I'm with because we need to shout to be heard. Good 10 years ago, now........no. |

I'm not in my thirties, but I'm also not really into the bar scene, so I read a lot, watch tv on the computer since I still haven't bothered hooking up cable(love torrents), jog/walk my dog, cook, visit random friends, sew, practice piano (badly), hmmm, and surf the web. Not a bad life at all and I'm thinking of getting a bike so I can get in better shape and because the Tanchon has a great bike lane and it might be cool to use it.
ETA: Hey Dome Where do you go bowling? I was asking my Korean coteacher about it and she siaid it was big years ago, but out of fashion now and all the nearby bowling alleys had closed down. I'm kinda thinking it would be fun to go out bowling one of these days. |

Well, that's an interesting question. I got tired of the club scene in my 20s. What do I do? I look for great ethnic fare to enjoy some great food like Persian, Mexican, Turkish, Indian, and Thai food. I do lots of walking. You can say I do a lot of reading. I try to contemplate, meditate. Sometimes, I will watch DVDs on my computer whether it's one of the latest movies. I also watch Eckhart Tolle DVDs. I love to listen to all kinds of music whenever I can. I am definitely into cafes. I enjoy Ethiopian, Brazilian, Yemenite, and Guatemalan coffee, and I like exotic teas. What do you enjoy doing? I also do some language studying to keep my language skills sharp. I just relish being with my friends whenever I can see them.
What about you? |

If you're in your 30s and have enough free time to think about a social life during the week, you're either independently wealthy or lazy.
Weekends? The time for crowded bars and nighclubs has passed. Quieter pubs and eateries rank up there, though. Time with friends is important.
I'm married. I don't particularly want to hang out with men who enjoy going to cafes or sampling international food or beverage. I don't favor conversation dominated by new gym routines or muscle-building powder. I read before I go to sleep, and don't require an Oprah account of the latest and greatest novels. |

I enjoy paragliding on the weekends and my wife enjoys taking photos.
If my wife is not with me when I go fly, everyone is asking me why my wife is not with me today. They love it when my wife takes photos and videos of them flying.
Now she is starting to make some exta money taking photos and videos of them flying.
When we are not flying to are going to beautiful and relaxing places around Korea. |
