Has anyone done this, and if so, do you have any advice and tips? Are there any mid-range hotels that will send someone to pick you up for a reasonable fee? |

When are you arriving and when are you departing the next day?
I have done the late night arrival thing there a few times and just waited upstairs outside the terminal (inside the outer security zone - ticket required for entry) until it opened in the morning for my next flight. It was only a few hours (3 or 4) so it wasn't worth the trouble to get a room.
I was flying PAL on both legs of the flight so everything was at NAIA II. |

If it's your first time flying into Manilla, I wouldn't venture off into the city at night
Seriously, that city gives me the creeps. The rest of the country is beautiful, but Manilla is down right scary. |

You can contact a hotel to pick you up at the airport. Dont trust the taxi's there. If you really want a nice and cheap hotel, pm me. I have a place that can pick you up. |

I had the experience of arriving here very late at night. I don't know if it's because of the change from traveling from a rich country to a third world one but Manila does seem scary at night when you are fresh off the plane. If you want to stay somewhere nearby you can stay at the Manila Airport Hotel.(http://airporthotelmanila.com/). No need for a taxi here as it is within walking distance. Either that or rough it at the airport.
Security is good around the airport. Taxi drivers are con artists in Manila however so don't pay an unreasonable price. Manila is not bad for 2 days but there are nicer places in the Philippines. Enjoy! |

True about con artist taxis, etc. Yet I've done exactly that multiple times as well.
If you are traveling on the next day, the staying in the airport is a great option.
I'm not sure hotels that pick you up, but I'm sure they exist.
If you take the taxis. They have 'official' taxis where someone DOES take the plate number and such down, and they overcharge you officially (but it's at least 'reportable' if there is a problem. Make sure you have exact change in pesos, as the taxi drivers NEVER admit that they do, if they do.
If you feel like like 'dealing directly' with taxi drivers for a cheaper rate, follow the Filipinos who go to the top level (departures lounge) and grab a taxi as it comes in. Quickly insist on them using the meter and if they don't agree, don't get in. |

i flew into manila at night and grabbed a taxi outside (not sure if it was official or not) and they took me to a hotel in ermita i had reserved online. the driver spoke good english. ask for a clear price before you get in --- not sure if i got ripped off or not but it seemed cheap compared with korean taxis. |

bring some pesos with you or have an ATM card that will allow you to take money out internationally. all the money changers were closed when i arrived at midnight. i brought US dollars but everyone wanted pesos and i was feeling fk-d. i asked a police-looking guy and he started looking around like he was about to hook me up with some kind of illegal deal -- he asked some random guy something, the guy replied negatively, and the police guy basically shrugged his shoulders and dismissed me and gave no advice. i was a bit pissed, but thought it was kinda funny too -- i had this experience many more times where i asked people something, and they looked around in a shady way, made a half-assed attempt to help me and then seemed to just say f-it and dismissed it all as hopeless.
anyway, i had just enough money in my US bank account to withdraw with my ATM card so i could get some pesos and pay for a taxi. use the atms BEFORE you leave the secured arrival area -- you have to explain how retarded you are if you go out and then want to come back in. |

Definately have a hotel reserved in advance at night. The hotel guy tried to con me by telling me that their information desk was closed and that I had to book through their outside service. Conveniently he had a driver that could take me there. Went with the guy and he told me the room would be $70 per night. Knowing I was being conned, I bailed out on that. However, the surrounding area outside was a pretty scary area. Luckily got a taxi and booked myself a room at the same hotel (came unprepared and that was the only name I could remember). They offered me, a room for $30. |

without a doubt
BUT
be aware that there are NO services (including currency exchange) at the airport late at night in Cebu.
The good news is that the Waterfront hotel (pricey as most airport hotels are) is just up the stairs and across the street (100 meters from the arrivals door) and there are other hotels within 5 minutes that are reasonable and ($15-100) affordable (with FREE airport pickups if you have a reservation).

How about getting cheap airfares once you're in Manila? I can get a roundtrip ticket to Manila for under 400,000 won but I'd have to shell out at least 100,000 won or more for a connecting flight. |

Check Cebu Pacific's website for their go-fares. Sometimes they are pretty cheap. Air Philippines (not Philippine Airlines.) often has seat sales as well.
It is hard to find much under 100k for a (return) flight anymore after the fuel surcharges are added in.

Okay, so I'm flying into Manila Sunday at 12:30 a.m. and my flight to Caticlan leaves 5:50 a.m. the same day. I should just stay at the airport? Will I be safe waiting there and especially if I doze off in my seat? |

Stay inside. The area near the airport is a dump and I was happy to get the hell out of Manila. Cockroaches all over the road, hookers coming out of bars grabbing your arm, and probably one of the saddest sites I saw were the kids, no older than 4 or 5, sleeping on the sidewalks or near the gutters. |
