I have very little patience for these noise polluting Korean politicians, but not greeting foreign people is the height of rudeness and indecency. This morn....

외국 분 에게 인사를 하지 않으세요?
Dont you greet foreign people?

They apologized and bowed, embarrassed. Well....

이재오씨의 대표자 무례하지 않아서 제가 이재오 에게 투표하겠어요
(Since Lee Jae Oh's representatives are not rude, I'll vote for Lee Jae Oh)

I must say Im rather a hypocrite though because I never bow. I dont like doing it. In my culture, bowing is the exception and ceremonial. In any case, these adjumas are doing the most godawful work, out there in all weather bowing all day for some politician. Not bowing to someone who sends home $US 3,000 every month is as indecent as it is erroneous.

Im not registered to vote here and they arent my representatives so i dont care if they dont bow to me.....but its funny when they do..its happened a couple of times, probably because they didnt immediately recognise me as a foreigner.. Once they stopped midbow, or two of them did..it messed up their whole routine.

poor girls.

I find that if I catch the eye of one of them, then he or she bows. Not at all sure what someone's income level has to do with anything.

While driving, whenever I approach one of the campaign trucks I always read the candidate's name on the banner. Then as I go by I yell out his/her name and pump my fist. I always get an enthusiastic response (especially when they see I'm a foreigner).

Yesterday, whilst on the main street in town, I ran past the truck with dancing/bowing ladies in my sweaty running gear, exhausted and flagging. I received a round of applause and bows all around. My speed picked up and I finished my run in good cheer.

These trucks do serve a purpose.

So you can vote?

I don't and I'm glad they ignore me.

I wasn't aware non-citizens could vote. What's the law regarding eligibility (eligability? Don't want to bother looking it up)?

Actually most westerners look pretty silly when they bow. I travelled to Thailand with this guy( non thai) who would wai every single Thai he encountered.it got pretty old pretty fast.

Those with an F-5 can vote in local elections.

(And you had it right. It's 'eligibility'.)

cdninkorea, not sure about GYOPOS, but for foreigners it requires being on the F5 visa for three years. Only since 2006 did the F5 people actually begin voting. At least that is what was stated in the spouse handbook for foreigners from the immigration website.

That's all I know on the situation. Just enjoy the day off from school. My wife says the woman running appears to be the best candidate of the choices she has seen. That would be number 6. Number 1 is a stay away from, and Number 2 - 5 are okay, but not worth the risk. At least that is her opinion of the candidates.

Damn I am sick and tired of being ignored. I really want to handed that flier for a perm but the flier adjjuma's always ignore me and give it to somebody else.

I really want to know more about Jesus but the priest ignores me and passes his free tissues to another person.

I want that phone call at 10:00 on a hungover Sunday to actually try and sell me insurance, computer, kimchi, ? even thru I can not actually speak a sentence in korean.

And I want ridiculous dancing adjummas bowing to me to vote for somebody that I can not not vote.

Simply putt why kowtow(sic) to somebody that 99.99 percent likely can not vote.

Are you expecting a lai put around your neck for being seen. A big ass fruit basket for showing your presence in korea.

Maybe it is a little rude. But jeeze get over it. Know if they ran screaming from your site and started giving you the evil eye. THAT WOULD BE RUDE.

I thought it was only for "Gu" elections though - not Assembly (at least, I did not get my info packet on it this time).

So which candidate would be the best? I'm thinking of recommending the one with the blackest hair-dye. Or maybe the quietest bbong-jak truck.

Whew! Decisions, decisions Rolling Eyes
