I haven't been there yet and want to go today. I just got a dog and I don't want to leave him at home. Does anyone know if dogs are allowed on the beach?

Thanks!

Erica

If he's in your picnic basket there shouldn't be a problem.

However, if he's on a leash there could be a problem.

I have been there only two times and both times I saw someone walking a dog on the beach.

Stupid, stupid post.
Some people just never learn.
Whether dogs are allowed or not is irrelevant.
Just repeat the following sentence until it finally sinks into your skull.

Laws are very rarely ever enforced in Korea

If a cop hassles you, do what other Koreans do, tell the cop to piss off.

Well thanks for your input? It seems like you really know your stuff! I just go to Korea so I really don't know-- which is why I asked on here.

I live very far from Haeundae so I didn't want to take my new dog all the way there only to be kicked out.

I'm happy to hear that laws are very rarely ever enforced in Korea! It's exciting to know that I can finally be active in my hobbies of burning down houses and stealing cars.

Tell them it's lunch, and you're just keeping it fresh.

How would you be "just keeping it fresh" when it hasn't even been cooked yet? Razz

Whether it's illegal or not, the bigger issue would be whether your dog would be crapping and pissing all over the sand. I would really not appreciate that if I were going there.

If it's a dog of any reasonable size (ie not a 5 kg rat dog) you're going to freak people out. Personally I'd love to walk a Great Dane or even a Labrador around the streets of Seoul just to see the locals react.

Be careful if you let your dog swim though- I had a dog once that didn't have the good sense to turn around when she got tired. I had to hoist her into a canoe to save her from drowning.

I just adopted him from the Daejeon shelter. He's very small and very timid.

There were lots of friends at the beach on Sunday so I wanted to meet them and not leave him at home. I'll just take him next time. Honestly, he probably won't even want to walk on the sand...he'll just want me to hold him the whole time.

Thanks for the helpful and comical advice guys.

I got in an argument with an elderly Korean man on the weekend for having my dogs with me at a public park. He came over and started screaming at us, he was very threatening actually but I am sick to death of that kind of B.S. I was polite at first and told him I understood him and that we would keep going as soon as I was finished taking pictures. But he kept getting more and more irrate.

A woman came over to translate, I told her I understood him perfectly but that he was being exceptionally rude and that he was representing Korea very poorly. I told her that I had every intention of doing what I came to do, and I took several photographs as slowly as possible.

She told me that he was angry because animals weren't allowed parks and that I should walk them in the street. (Because walking a dog into on coming traffic is a great idea Rolling Eyes ). I would have been fine with that except that there were dogs everywhere that day! I was the only person he came after. I guess it is only a rule if you happen to be a foreigner. I fear that I was actually very rude to him after a while but my patience is gone for people like him. I was so angry I almost shot him in the face with my water pistol (the one I carry to shoot my dog if she barks excessively).

So whether or not Koreans are doing it you may be forced to deal with the same situation. This happens to me all the time. Especially with bus drivers (No freakin way I'm going to put a 4kg dog in a softsided crate in the luggage compartment!!!)I would just leave him home. It would be a shame to take him all that way only to have to take him straight home.

I am so happy that he is from Daejeon though, so are mine Very Happy

Wow that's a great story! I busted out laughing at the water pistol comment! All of my co-workers just stared at me...

Yep I just got Ernest on Saturday. He's really sweet. If you want to see his picture, you can see it on animalrescuekorea... he's the little black dog with the white face and the hunter green t-shirt on. I'm happy your dog is from there too!

So what if the dog pees or takes a dump on the beach. I see mothers, encouraging their kiddies to use the beach/parks/trainplatforms as a toilet every summer.
