Hi

I think I'd like to get an LPG car (liquid propane gas) and I'm wondering for any of you know how to get one? I have a problem with getting a normal gasoline car, I really don't want to do it, but I think an LPG car might be possible.

I know generally they are only used by taxis and other public transit vehicles (although it seems the buses run on diesel) but I think there must be some people with lpg cars out there?

It seems the infrastructure is in place here to be able to fill up an LPG car pretty much anywhere in the country. Is that actually the case? Do LPG car owners have to get special maps or something?

I hired a Tosca last month when me a few teachers went on a road trip. It was LPG. The best thing was that it was dirt cheap, but a bit of power was sacrificed for this. Not all garages have LPG and they always have their on little section away from the petrol and diesel bit. Not all the freeway services have LPG which led to some hairy moments while bombing down the motorway.

Overall very good. Once you know where to get it from it's great highly recommended. I think there are maps that have the LPG stations on it.

I think you have to fall under some sort of low-income bracket or have a handicap in order to be an owner of an lpg gas car.

Ellegarden is right, not everyone can have an LPG car. I'm not sure of the exact list, but I know that taxis, farmers, and low-income families can have one. Contact a card dealer or the highway department for info.

My wife's mother had knee surgery a few years ago, and she was able to get a handicapped card (today she could probably outrun me, but I guess the handicapped designation is for life here).

Back in 2004 my wife bought an EF Sonata with an LPG tank using her mother's name. It is much cheaper to fill up than a regular gas car and has pretty good power. The engine is 2,200 cc, if I remember correctly.

When I tell Koreans my car is LPG, they always get a little wide-eyed and ask "How did you get that?". The average joe can't buy an LPG car that size in Korea.

I also have a handicapped parking card for the dashboard. Of course I never use it (ahem).

This seems really vague and seemingly the result of some agreement between the carmakers, government and gas companies.

There seem to be exceptions. I drive a Kia Carens. LPG. In fact, all Carens' are LPG. You can't buy a regular gas Carens. So, if you walk into the Kia showroom and buy a Carens like my wife and I did, then it's LPG.

Which defeats the point of LPG being restricted. Which begs the question, why are LPG cars restricted?

Another question which bugs the hell out of me....Why is LPG in separate gas stations from gas? Why can't both be sold in all the gas stations?

The whole world of LPG in Korea has more questions than answers..........very mysterious......

I didn't say I understood it...heck, I might even be wrong. I'm only going on what I was told when I asked why everyone didn't have one. I was told it has something to do with making it cheaper for people who drive a lot (taxis and farmers) and people with less money. This may be full of shite. I really don't know.

I have a Kia Towner and it is LPG. I had no problem getting it or registering it. A little under powered but I love the 30k won tank fills once a month.

I didn't mean you were vague. I meant the rules concerning LPG vehicles in Korea are vague. Just my bad phrasing.

Yeah, it is odd. I drive a dual fuel. Simply because it was my one finger and thumbed brother in law's. LPG is alright. I find the gasoline underpowered anyway. BUt, the car sucks through the lpg faster making it almost the same in money terms. I fill on lpg mostly because of convenience - all geared up with car washes etc for the taxis whereas petrol stations tend to lack these facilititties.

If you get an LPG car, get a navigation unit for it. It'll help you find the closest LPG stations lickety-split!

When I first came here in 1996 I was so obsessed with the Daewoo Damas I actually visited a dealership and had them convinced I was interested in importing them to Canada. They sent me a big package in the mail. I was 16.

I can't believe it. What has been a heretofore good vehicle for 4 years broke down on my wife tonight while she was in Ilsan.

The 'vaporiser' (WTF is that?) in the LPG fuel delivery system shit the bed. That plus assorted side dishes just cost me 600,000.

That'll teach me not to brag, I guess. Mad

I'm currently less than enamored with my LPG car.
