Hi, my name is Janita, and I will be accepting a job in Mokpo. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it?

Well, I don't live there actually, but it seems like the photos geocoded to the Mokpo area on Google Earth are even smoggier looking than photos elsewhere in Korea. Not to be histrionic-like, but, if you have Google Earth, you should check it out! Someone else (Fishead soup is his screen name) was telling me how nice the islands off Mokpo are though along with the ferry rides to them, that you can see some remarkable rock formations jutting out of the sea and eat some raw fish (yay!). I bet he could tell you a bit about the area. If I'm not mistaken, a regional airport opened up in nearby Muan County. Hmm, well, being an outsider, I guess that's about all I have to contribute.

I'm in Mokpo. Mokpo is a port city. It's not bad. It has a pretty god foreigner population and Gwanju is only a 6000 won bus ride if you want to go to a larger area. There is a facebook group for people living in Mokpo as well. I'm just out the door to Gwanju. Will you be working at a public or private school?

Mokpo's great. The foreigner population here are very friendly and invite one another to social events all the time. If by private school you mean for the Office of Education then you'll get on an email list. If by private school you mean hakwon then just come out to one of the outdoor events (they're all amateur casual stuff) and meet some folks and you'll be fine. It's really better here than in Seoul. So I take it you live in Mokpo??? I meant a hakwon, and thank you for giving me the Korean name. I had no idea what it was Anyway, what exactly do you mean by outdoor events? I noticed on the Mokpo website that there are a lot of festivals and places to go and see. It looks very beautiful.

Man, I don't think there is enough cash in Korea to get me to live

by outdoor events I mean those events organized by foreigners here, which (both events and foreigners) number quite a few. When are you coming in? As soon as one of us can PM the other, PM me and I'll give you some more info on waeguk stuff happening here in town.




I'm not going to be going to Mokpo it seems. The recruiter that was supposed to find me a job told me a few days ago that the school wants a male English teacher, so I got dumped. If I do get a job in another part of Korea, however, maybe we can still meet or something. I want to go really bad, but my luck seems to be working against me!!!
